Job Title
Registered Nurse
Position PurposeTo assess, plan, organize, provide, and evaluate inpatient and outpatient care to ill or injured students at the college health service.
ScheduleFull‑time 32–40 hrs/week. Schedules include 7:00 am–3:00 pm, 3:00 pm–11:00 pm, and 11:00 pm–7:00 am. Must be available to work every other weekend.
LocationHanover, NH – 7 Rope Ferry Road.
WorksiteOnsite only (no remote work).
Primary Duties- Develop nursing care plans and provide individualized nursing care to inpatients.
- Apply knowledge of adolescent and young adult growth and development in treatment of students.
- Monitor and assess patient conditions and report significant changes.
- Interpret, record, and implement physicians’ orders.
- Conduct physical and mental health assessments, triage, and treatment of ill and injured students presenting for after‑hours care.
- Provide first aid and emergency care as appropriate.
- Make nursing judgments and decisions, responsibly document patient care.
- Transmit assessments to physician on call when necessary.
- Maintain accurate and legally viable nursing records, including controlled substances documentation.
- Assess patient knowledge of preventive health care and provide health education.
- Participate in teaching of nursing personnel, medical students, and professional trainees.
- Communicate and coordinate care with the Dean of Students, Safety & Security, and Dartmouth‑Hitchcock Medical Center.
- Communicate respectfully with a diverse student community, fostering inclusiveness and diversity.
- Demonstrate professionalism and collegiality.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Nursing or equivalent combination of education and experience. - Clinical
Experience:
Minimum of two years nursing experience, including physical assessment and triage. - Licensure &
Certifications:
Current registration with the New Hampshire Board of Nursing, CPR and AED certification, venipuncture and phlebotomy skills. - Skills:
Knowledge of adolescent and young adult development; good communication and interpersonal skills; sound judgment; ability to make independent decisions; accurate implementation of physician orders; ability to make medical and health assessments and apply nursing practices and processes. - Preferred:
Experience in college health, community health, or psychiatric nursing; BSN or BS in a related field.
- Employment is contingent upon a successful pre‑employment background check including criminal background, reference checks, verification of work history, and verification of required licenses and certifications.
- Driving is not an essential function of this job.
