Primary Purpose

Manage retail operations for the assigned department, making decisions that affect associates, merchandise quality, presentation, and customer service. Build strong associate and customer relationships, promote the Hannaford culture through huddles and role‑modeling, and maintain high standards of store appearance, security, safety, and food safety. Ensure appropriate control of company assets.

Responsibilities
  • Foster a positive and inclusive environment to retain associates and customers.
  • Ensure all quality standards are met and maintain department appearance and presentation.
  • Hire, train, and develop associates to meet department needs.
  • Attain departmental financial objectives and supervise performance of all assigned associates.
  • Provide recognition and constructive counseling as needed.
  • Must be able to meet physical requirements of the position, with or without reasonable accommodations.
  • Ensure accurate records of production, shrink, sales, and inventory.
  • Use RF units, retrieve and organize product loads, and assist with inventory ordering and control.
  • Conduct performance appraisals and maintain effective work schedules.
  • Use company tools such as MPP, financial reports, scheduling, ordering, and business information systems.
  • Follow company policies and procedures, sanitation, safety, and food safety standards.
  • Understand causes of shrink and resolve issues.
  • Maintain knowledge of department standard practice manuals and program manuals.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned.
  • Strong understanding of store operations, merchandising techniques, and total store merchandising.
  • Excellent interpersonal, customer service, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated judgment in problem solving, decision making, and dispute resolution.
  • Ability to lead and manage associates across multiple departments.
  • Department Manager or equivalent experience required.
  • College degree or equivalent preferred.
  • Must be accredited by the National Registry of Food Safety Professionals or similar. If not, required to achieve accreditation within 90 days and maintain it while employed.
Physical Requirements
  • Use computers and communication systems.
  • Lift up to 20 lbs. regularly, occasionally up to 60 lbs.; push/pull up to 40 lbs. regularly.
  • Meet established volume and fixed activity standards.
Preferred Requirements
  • Assist in attaining financial objectives: sales, payroll percent, gross margin, shrink, MPP net percent effectiveness, and control of other expenses.
  • Foster a sales‑driven, customer‑focused culture through relationship building and enthusiastic customer awareness.
  • Provide recognition and constructive counseling to associates.
  • Maintain store appearance and product quality conditions.
  • Support performance management for assigned associates and make hiring recommendations.
  • Maintain communication with management, associates, and the organization.
  • Ensure compliance with security, safety, and food safety standards.
  • Apply standard merchandising techniques and layouts consistent with corporate philosophy.
  • Resolve inventory shrink issues and use company tools effectively.
  • Maintain confidentiality of store information.
  • Perform all other duties and projects as assigned.
  • Must be able to meet physical requirements of the position.

Salary range: $18.95 - $27.25 per hour
