Software Engineer - Engine

Engine by Starling, a Software-as-a-Service business, is looking for Backend Software Engineers to work on the Engine Platform and build new features for banks worldwide.

• Lead multiple complex projects from inception to production as a Staff Engineer.
• Act as a technical leader with or without a direct team.
• Take ownership of critical technical challenges and drive innovative change.
• Collaborate with clients, solution architects, product owners and peers to meet client goals.
• Understand how banks operate globally and shape future capabilities of Engine.
• Lead by example, setting a high standard for code quality and continuous delivery.

• Contribute to the award‑winning platform and internal tooling as an Engineer.
• Build new features and products from scratch in a configurable way.

• Own projects and work in small, cross‑functional teams.

• Experience delivering change to critical systems in a distributed environment.
• Proficiency in Java and a high standard for coding excellence.
• Good understanding of Dev Ops practices and cloud‑native operations on AWS or GCP.
• Experience delivering complex outcomes across multiple domains and teams.
• Coaching and mentoring skills to develop teammates.
• Leading technical delivery on large‑scale projects to successful completion.
• Knowledge of microservices, Kubernetes (EKS), Team City CI/CD, Terraform, and Grafana is a plus.
