Job Overview

Beyond New Horizons, LLC (BNH) is seeking a Sr. Linux System Administrator to support Test Operations and Sustainment (TOS II) at Arnold Air Force Base, Tennessee. The role is part of an integrated team responsible for designing, supporting, and maintaining Linux systems and peripherals for the U.S. Air Force.

Open to internal and external candidates.

Must be willing to work outside normal business hours on an occasional basis (e.g., application upgrades).

Job Duties
  • Serve as primary system administrator for Linux‑based servers, workstations, and services.
  • Resolve complex user issues related to system and network functionality, compatibility, and performance.
  • Evaluate hardware and software solutions, summarize findings, and recommend to leadership.
  • Build, deploy, and administer Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) workstation and server infrastructure.
  • Configure, deploy, and manage virtualization technology frameworks such as VMware and Open Shift.
  • Create and maintain approved secure baselines for server and client OS images.
  • Perform system security configuration, hardening, patching, and monitoring, including implementation of Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs) and DoD security policies.
  • Provide secondary administration support for Linux‑based systems and peripheral IT equipment including server, workstation, and storage operations, upgrades, and enhancements.
  • Install, maintain, and support commercial and government‑owned software.
  • Handle system backup hardware, applications, and processes.
  • Support, maintain, repair, and install workstations, servers, peripheral equipment, and software applications.
  • Provide secondary network administration support: configure and harden network devices; coordinate with IT technicians for installation and corrective actions.
  • Implement and manage vulnerability patches to ensure system security.
  • Collaborate with Information Systems Security Manager (ISSM) to ensure compliance with cybersecurity regulations and best practices.
  • Document, maintain, evaluate, and ensure compliance of cybersecurity requirements for government IT system networks.
  • Provide end‑user troubleshooting support through the ticket support system.
  • Support common work processes and procedures across the TOS contract.
  • Research new information systems technologies and capabilities; evaluate processes and programs for continuous improvement.
  • Obtain or commit to obtaining all required certifications per DoD 8140 within six months of hire.
  • Provide support to AEDC customers and other contractors.
  • Remain available outside working hours to remediate critical IT infrastructure issues.
  • Wear PPE in accordance with supervisory direction and company policy.
  • Perform any other duties as required.
Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in an IT‑related field.
  • L09:
    Minimum of 8 years of progressively relevant experience; 12 years for those lacking a bachelor’s degree.
  • L10:
    Minimum of 11 years of progressively relevant experience; 15 years for those lacking a bachelor’s degree.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance and access to the AEDC local area network.
  • Current U.S. citizenship.
Preferred Qualifications
  • CompTIA Security+ certification.
  • Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA) and/or Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE).
  • Experience with Unix/Linux/Windows workstations and servers, hardware, software, mass storage, HPC, patching, ACAS, VLANs, VMware, Open Shift, Net App ONTAP, Active Directory, Veeam, and Solar Winds NPM.
  • Proficiency in scripting and automation tools (Bash, Power Shell, Python, Ansible).
  • Knowledge of containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Configuration and application of security policies and templates for system hardening.
  • Monitoring and tuning of server applications and performance.
  • Storage management including RAID, LVM, NFS.
  • Experience with NISPOM and/or DoD/RMF.
  • Experience with network services such as DNS, DHCP, LDAP, NIS, Apache, Tomcat.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
