Description

The Food Safety & Quality Assurance (FSQA) Technician is a hands-on role that helps ensure products meet food safety, quality, regulatory, and customer requirements. The Technician performs routine inspections, product and process checks, sampling, sanitation verifications, and documentation while working closely with Production, Growing, Harvesting, Sanitation, Maintenance, Warehouse, and other teams.

This role is a strong opportunity for someone who is detail-oriented, comfortable working on the production floor, and interested in developing a career in food safety and quality. Previous food safety or quality experience is preferred, but training will be provided for candidates with the right skills and aptitude.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Provide food safety and quality support throughout the facility and verify compliance with company standards, procedures, and GMP requirements.
  • Perform routine GMP, facility, pre-operational, in-process, and post-sanitation inspections and clearly document findings.
  • Conduct routine product and process checks, including label verification, net weight, package integrity, lot code verification, retention sampling, and other quality checks as assigned.
  • Collect finished product, environmental, and other samples using established procedures and coordinate samples for testing as required.
  • Support environmental monitoring activities, including swabbing, documentation, and communication of findings.
  • Verify sanitation effectiveness through post-sanitation inspections and other verification activities; communicate non-routine cleaning needs to the Sanitation team.
  • Perform routine equipment verification and calibration checks in accordance with established procedures.
  • Identify food safety or quality deviations, place product or materials on hold when required by procedure, and promptly escalation concerns to the FSQA Lead or FSQA Manager.
  • Complete electronic and paper records accurately, legibly, and on time, including documentation of inspections, process checks, sampling, holds, and corrective actions.
  • Partner with Production, Growing, Harvesting, Sanitation, Maintenance, Warehouse, and other departments to resolve food safety and quality concerns.
  • Follow GMPs, HACCP requirements, SOPs, safety procedures, and all applicable food safety and quality programs.
  • Support audit readiness, continuous improvement activities, and additional FSQA coverage as assigned.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND

SKILLS:
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow written procedures and established standards.
  • Ability to accurately complete records and clearly communicate food safety and quality concerns.
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple tasks, and work effectively as part of a cross-functional team.
  • Basic computer skills and ability to learn electronic food safety and quality recordkeeping systems.
  • Willingness and ability to learn food safety, GMP, HACCP, sanitation, product quality, and inspection requirements.
PREFERRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND

SKILLS:
  • Previous experience in food manufacturing, food safety, quality assurance, sanitation, agriculture, greenhouse operations, packaging, or another regulated production environment.
  • Experience with GMPs, HACCP, product inspection, sampling, sanitation verification, or quality documentation.
  • Associate degree or relevant technical education in Food Science, Agriculture, Horticulture, Biology, or a related field.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish is a plus.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Ability to meet the physical demands of the role, including frequent walking and standing and occasional reaching, climbing, bending, and repetitive work.
  • Ability to safely lift, carry, push, or pull materials and supplies as required by the job.
  • Ability to work weekends, holidays, and overtime as operational needs require.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
  • Indoor high-tech greenhouse and food production environment with exposure to warm and refrigerated temperatures, humidity, moisture, agricultural production conditions, and high-intensity lighting.
  • Use of required personal protective equipment (PPE).
