The University of Salford is looking to appoint a skilled and reliable Plumber to join its in‑house Estates Maintenance team. This role involves maintaining buildings safely, ensuring compliance, and keeping the campus operational for staff, students, and visitors.
Typical Duties- Plan and conduct preventative maintenance of water and heating systems, including plantroom inspections and filter cleaning.
- Perform reactive plumbing repairs, fault diagnosis, and drainage system work.
- Carry out minor installation works such as new water supplies, radiators and sanitaryware.
- Support water hygiene and legionella controls through safe maintenance practices.
- Work independently or as part of a wider trades team, collaborating with electricians, joiners, handypersons, and external contractors.
- Participate in the out‑of‑hours emergency call‑out rota.
- Ensure all work follows university procedures, statutory requirements and health and safety legislation, keeping buildings safe and compliant.
- City & Guilds NVQ Level 3 in Plumbing & Heating.
- Experience in planned and reactive maintenance tasks.
- Knowledge of water systems, heating systems and safety requirements.
- Understanding of HVAC systems and electrical safety.
- Knowledge of health and safety practices.
- Willingness to support minor joinery and electrical tasks.
- Ability to work independently, manage workloads and prioritise effectively.
- Strong communication skills and a courteous professional approach to building users.
- Requirement to present qualification certificates or CSCS Gold Card during application and interview.
