About the role
The University of Salford is looking to appoint a skilled and reliable Plumber to join its in‑house Estates Maintenance team. This is an excellent opportunity to work within a large, diverse university estate, helping to keep buildings safe, compliant and fully operational for staff, students and visitors. The maintenance team plays a critical role in ensuring the campus is safe, welcoming and fully functional every day.
Responsibilities- Planned preventative maintenance of water and heating systems, including plantroom inspections, filter cleaning and replacement.
- Reactive plumbing repairs and fault diagnosis across water, heating and drainage systems.
- Minor installation works such as new water supplies, radiators and sanitaryware.
- Supporting the management of water hygiene and legionella controls through safe maintenance practices.
- Working independently or as part of a wider trades team, depending on the task.
- Collaborating with electricians, joiners, handypersons and external contractors where required.
- Participating in the trades out‑of‑hours emergency call‑out rota.
- All work must be undertaken in line with University procedures, statutory requirements and health and safety legislation, ensuring buildings remain safe, compliant and fit for purpose.
- City & Guilds NVQ Level 3 in Plumbing & Heating.
- Ability to work competently on both planned and reactive maintenance tasks.
- Sound knowledge of water systems, heating systems and associated safety requirements.
- Good understanding of HVAC systems and electrical safety.
- Good understanding of Health and Safety practices.
- Willingness to undertake and support minor joinery and electrical tasks where required.
- Ability to work independently, manage workloads and prioritise tasks effectively.
- Strong communication skills and a professional, courteous approach when dealing with building users.
- Presentation of qualification certificates or a CSCS Gold Card at application stage and interview.
