Building Maintenance, Maintenance Technician / Mechanic

To deliver high-quality fabrication, installation, and decorative works across the Arndale site. The role involves maintaining and enhancing public spaces, retail areas, and back‑of‑house environments to ensure a safe, visually appealing, and well‑maintained shopping centre.
Key Responsibilities Fabrication & Installation- Manufacture, assemble, and install fixtures, fittings, signage, and display elements.
- Carry out basic carpentry, metalwork, and associated fabrication tasks.
- Modify and repair existing structures and fittings as required.
- Interpret technical drawings and specifications to complete work accurately.
- Prepare surfaces (sanding, filling, priming) for decoration.
- Carry out painting, varnishing, and finishing to a high standard.
- Apply specialist finishes, coatings, and decorative treatments where required.
- Ensure consistent appearance across all public and tenant‑facing areas.
- Respond to reactive maintenance requests across the centre.
- Conduct planned preventative maintenance (PPM) tasks relating to fabric and décor.
- Identify defects and recommend remedial actions.
- Ensure all work areas are safe and left clean upon completion.
- Work in compliance with H&S policies, risk assessments, and method statements.
- Use tools, equipment, and materials safely and correctly.
- Follow permit-to-work systems where required.
- Report hazards, incidents, and near misses promptly.
- Liaise with site management, contractors, and tenants where needed.
- Provide a professional and customer-focused service at all times.
- Support centre events, seasonal decorations, and project works.
- Proven experience in fabrication, maintenance, or decorating roles.
- Strong practical skills in painting, surface preparation, and basic construction.
- Ability to use hand and power tools safely and effectively.
- Basic knowledge of building maintenance and materials.
- Ability to read and interpret drawings (preferred).
- Good problem‑solving skills and attention to detail.
- NVQ/City & Guilds in Painting & Decorating, Carpentry, or similar trade.
- Health & Safety training (e.g. IOSH Working Safely).
- PASMA / IPAF (advantageous but not essential).
- Reliable and self‑motivated.
- Flexible and able to work independently or as part of a team.
- Strong attention to detail and quality standards.
