Role DescriptionThe HGV Mechanic role at OCVS is a full-time, on-site position based in Trafford Park. The HGV Mechanic will inspect, diagnose, repair, and maintain heavy goods vehicles, ensuring they are safe, roadworthy, and compliant with relevant regulations. Day-to-day tasks include performing routine servicing, carrying out mechanical and electrical fault-finding, completing MOT preparation work, and conducting post-repair testing. The role also involves maintaining accurate service records, following health and safety procedures, and working closely with colleagues to minimize vehicle downtime.
The successful candidate will support reliable fleet operations by delivering consistent, high-quality technical work.
- Demonstrated experience as an HGV Mechanic or Technician, with strong skills in vehicle inspection, servicing, and repair.
- Competence in diagnosing mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic faults on heavy goods vehicles using appropriate tools and diagnostic equipment.
- Knowledge of HGV safety standards, MOT requirements, and relevant transport regulations, with a commitment to safe working practices.
- Ability to interpret technical manuals, service documentation, and work orders, and to maintain accurate maintenance records.
- Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work efficiently both independently and as part of a team.
- Recognized vocational or technical qualification in vehicle maintenance, automotive engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- Valid HGV driving license is highly beneficial, along with experience working in a workshop or fleet maintenance environment.
