Bennington-Rutland Supervisory Union seeks a dedicated and experienced Limited Term Special Educator - Life Skills to join our team in the 2026/2027 school year! The Elementary Life Skills Program is a district-wide program housed at our newly reconfigured elementary and middle school building in Manchester. This multiage program provides highly individualized instruction and support for students with significant cognitive and adaptive needs in grades K-8.

The program focuses on building functional academic, social, communication, and daily living skills in a structured, nurturing learning environment. Students receive instruction aligned with their Individualized Education Program (IEP) goals, emphasizing hands‑on learning, community integration, and independence. Collaboration among teachers, therapists, and families ensures that each child progresses at their own pace and develops the skills needed for success in school and daily life.

Working closely with classroom teachers, interventionists, and related service providers, the Special Educator will design and deliver well‑aligned, personalized instructional programming for students with disabilities. The role requires the ability to conduct assessments, analyze student data, adjust instruction based on progress monitoring, and ensure access to grade‑appropriate curriculum through differentiated instruction and appropriate accommodations or modifications.

The ideal candidate brings a strong background in special education program development and demonstrates expertise in evidence‑based instructional practices, trauma‑informed practices, and inclusive service delivery models. Strong candidates will exhibit a student‑centered approach, exceptional oral and written communication skills, and the ability to build and sustain meaningful relationships with students and families. A demonstrated commitment to equity, working collaboratively with all colleagues, and fostering a positive learning environment for all students is essential.

Annual Salary Range:

• $51,000 to $95,370, based on education level and years of experience; prorated in accordance with FTE

• Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor degree in Special Education or related field
  • Holds or is eligible to hold a Vermont Teaching License with appropriate endorsement
  • Demonstrated skill and experience working as a Special Educator
  • Experience in working with students with disabilities is required
  • Current certification in CPI or other crisis intervention program, or willingness to secure prior to first student day.
