This position is responsible for the Family Engagement portion of the Head Start Program Performance Standards at the school level, including parent and community partnerships and the creation and follow‑up of family goals. The Family Worker coordinates family engagement meetings and training, works closely with the staff of the Family Hub to bring parents/guardians into our schools, and increases their involvement.
The role also meets the needs of all diverse learners, manages paperwork, IEPs/IFSPs, data entry, scheduling, and facilitates family review meetings. Additionally, the Family Worker provides direct and indirect support in medical, dental, and social services, assists the ERSEA Manager with student recruitment, and is responsible for enrolling eligible children. Availability for some evenings and weekends is required. The position supports both the Nia Family Center and the Taylor Center for New Experiences.
- Bachelor’s degree in social services or related field (Master’s preferred).
- Hold a Gateways Family Specialist Credential Level 5.
- Coordinate family engagement meetings and trainings.
- Maintain records of IEPs, IFSPs and family review meetings.
- Provide support services in medical, dental, and social areas.
- Assist with student recruitment and enrollment of eligible children.
- Work evenings and weekends as required.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to work with a diverse clientele and maintain confidentiality.
- Strong leadership skills and effective idea sharing.
- Ability to work under stress in a fast‑paced environment.
- Flexible, team‑player mindset adaptable to any situation.
- Advocate for children and families.
- Proficiency in English (Spanish a plus).
- Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Availability for evenings and weekends.
- Meet full enrollment requirements set by program funders.
- Increase family engagement participant numbers.
- Maintain required record‑keeping per program funders.
The employee must stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl frequently; lift and/or move up to 40 pounds on occasion. Ability to read and speak English proficiently is required. Specific vision requirements include close‑range seeing.
