Accountant - Mandan​/Dickinson

Position Summary

This position is expected to coordinate and perform financial accounting and reporting functions for both the Mandan Refinery and Dickinson Renewable Fuels facility. In addition to the responsibilities listed below, the position will assist accountants and business partners in resolving day-to-day issues and interacts with refinery personnel, other refinery accounting departments, and Findlay/SAT accounting.

The preferred location is either Mandan, ND or Dickinson, ND; other MPC Refining locations may be considered.

• Prepare monthly financial entries to properly account for refinery expenses and other financial activity.
• Participate in monthly financial closeout activities for assigned areas of responsibility, including month-end account reconciliations and execution of SOX controls.
• Analyze actual results and prepare reports as necessary for assigned areas of responsibility.
• Participate in the development of the refinery’s annual expense budget and monthly updates, and analyze actual versus budgeted expenditures.
• Assist in the implementation of new procedures and accounting systems, or financial applications as they arise.
• Assist in special projects assigned and provide back-up for other accounting functions as required.
• Participate in the completion of the biennial Solomon Benchmarking Survey.
• Strong communication skills are required to effectively receive and distribute information to accounting personnel, operational personnel, various levels of management, and other MPC locations.
• Displays advanced ability to utilize systems/tools, which include, but are not limited to, Excel and SAP.

• Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is required. An accounting degree is preferred.
• Two (2) years of Accounting/Finance experience is required.
• Previous MPC Refinery Accounting experience is highly preferred.
• Previous experience working a large ERP is preferred.
• Intermediate experience in Microsoft Excel is preferred.
• Experience with Business Intelligence tools (Power BI) is a plus.
• Periodic travel between the two primary locations.
