Department Details:

This position will work 6:00am - 2:15pm including every other weekend and rotating holidays.

Responsibilities

Senior Nursing Assistant (NA) serves as an experienced caregiver to the resident during the scheduled work period in long term care. Demonstrates expert level experience as a certified nursing assistant and assists other staff as needed. Provides resident-centered nursing care and daily living assistance under the supervision of a registered nurse (RN). Maintains infection prevention and control policies and uses Personal Protective Equipment.

Often supports other clinical staff and leads in problem solving and accountability.

Provides assistance with basic health care needs including daily living activities such as bathing, toileting, grooming, dressing, obtaining and recording vital signs, and providing psychosocial support. Assists with transferring, repositioning, and walking using proper techniques and equipment; provides range of motion and passive exercises. Supports dining by assisting with food preparation and providing a positive dining experience; assists residents with meals and hydration as appropriate.

Assists providers and nursing staff with procedures as needed. Documents resident interactions and outcomes related to care, behavior, activity, and dietary needs. Communicates changes in condition to the charge nurse. Collects non-invasive body fluid specimens and vital signs. Provides housekeeping and laundry services to maintain clean living areas. Encourages participation in wellness and recreational programs. May participate in departmental or organizational committees and task forces as needed.

May be responsible for tasks related to the Restorative Nursing program (including documentation, scheduling and leading restorative programs).

Qualifications

Education
:
High school graduate or GED preferred but not required.

Experience
:
Minimum age 16. Two years of clinical or nursing assistant experience in long-term care preferred.

Certifications
:
Required Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification with the State Board of Nursing. Maintain 12 hours of continuing education annually and keep department-specific certifications current. May be required to complete Restorative Nursing training within 6 months. If applicable, certified and registered with the Unlicensed Assistive Person (UAP) Registry.

Additional
:
Depending on facility, role may classify as Sanford Category II Driver requiring motor vehicle report and valid driver’s license; must be medically qualified to perform essential driving functions per Sanford Driving Policy.
