8:00-4:30 Weekends On-Call

Position Summary

To provide transportation services to patients as needed to required appointments or as directed.

The Patient Transportation Driver is responsible for safely transporting patients to and from discharge locations, hospitals, doctor appointments, patient homes, and other destinations. This role ensures patient safety, comfort, and well-being during transport while maintaining confidentiality, dignity, and respect at all times. The driver adheres to all facility, state, and federal regulations, follows infection control policies, and completes accurate documentation. In addition, the driver supports vehicle maintenance, coordinates with staff for timely transports, and participates in training and departmental operations as needed.

The position requires professionalism, sound judgment, and the ability to work independently or collaboratively with the transportation team and other facility staff.

Patient Transportation & Safety
  • Transport patients safely to and from discharge locations.
  • Follow all driving requirements, including speed limits, defensive driving practices, and proper seating and supervision of patients.
  • Ensure patient safety with seat belts, wheelchair restraints, and securement of mobility devices.
  • Respond appropriately to vehicle emergencies, accidents, or medical situations during transport.
Documentation & Compliance
  • Complete documentation promptly and accurately, including daily reports, vehicle logs, and incident reports.
  • Promptly communicate incidents, patient concerns, or staff issues immediately to the Transportation Lead.
  • Follow all state and federal regulatory requirements, DNV accreditation standards, company policies, including HIPAA, AHA BLS training, and CPI guidelines.
Customer Service & Professionalism
  • Provide positive, professional, and respectful interactions with patients, families, referral sources, and community contacts.
  • Demonstrate sound judgment, composure, and professional decision-making, especially in challenging situations with patients.
  • Maintain professional communication and conduct with all employees at all levels of the organization.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality.
Vehicle Maintenance & Environment
  • Perform routine vehicle maintenance, including inspections, exterior washing, vacuuming, and interior cleaning.
  • Report vehicle maintenance issues promptly to the Transportation Lead to ensure safe and reliable operation.
  • Keep vehicles stocked with necessary equipment, supplies, and safety materials.
  • Adhere to infection control policies, including PPE usage and vehicle sanitization between transports.
Scheduling & Team Support
  • Collaborate with Transportation team members to ensure timely patient pick-ups and drop-offs.
  • Assist in planning routes for efficiency and adherence to patient schedules.
  • Assist other team members as needed for department operations.
  • Participate in required training sessions, including driver safety, AHA BLS, CPI, HIPAA, and facility policies.
Other Duties
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications

Education: High School Diploma or GED required.

Experience: Candidates with previous transportation experience will be given preference;
Previous experience working with patients or in a healthcare setting preferred.

Licensure / Certification: Valid Louisiana Driver’s License;
Clean driving record;
American Heart Association BLS (AHA BLS) and Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) certification. Successful candidates who do not have current AHA BLS or CPI certification will be required to attend company-provided classes during the week of orientation.

HIPAA: Access to limited Protected Health Information (PHI) necessary to perform job functions. Responsible for maintaining patient confidentiality and adhering to all HIPAA regulations.
