Position Summary & Responsibilities
The Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) is hiring a Certification Specialist (K0227863) in Topeka. The incumbent will perform the daily duties of the Information Request Unit, Processing Unit, and Customer Service Unit, including opening and marking mail, answering telephone calls on the AWS system, mailing certificates, printing orders, matching certificates to receipts, verifying eligibility, trimming certificates, indexing older certificates, keying requests into the point‑of‑sale system, assisting customers with kiosk orders, and verifying customer eligibility.
The role may also involve special projects within the Office of Vital Statistics, such as processing incoming emails from customers and other public entities.
- Handle information requests, including opening, marking, and mailing certificates.
- Manage processing tasks: print orders, match certificates to receipts, verify eligibility, trim and index certificates.
- Provide customer service: key requests, assist kiosk customers, verify eligibility.
- Participate in special projects with the Office of Vital Statistics.
- Respond courteously to incoming emails from customers, public entities, and state agencies.
- Education: High School diploma or GED.
- Licensing & Certification: Valid driver’s license required when operating a state vehicle.
- Minimum Qualifications: Two years of general office, clerical, or administrative support experience (education may be substituted).
- Preferred Qualifications:
- Mail room or mail‑sorting experience.
- Phone customer‑service experience.
- Experience handling confidential information.
- One year of office support or clerical work.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Proofreading, editing, attention to detail.
- Proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access.
- Post‑Offer Requirements:
- Fingerprinting and criminal‑history check under K.S.A. 65‑2402(b).
- Valid Kansas Tax Clearance Certificate within ten days of job offer.
