Supervisory Utility Systems Repairer Operator

Summary

Position located in United States Department (USDA), Agricultural Research Service (ARS), Facilities Engineering, National Bio and Agro Defense Facility (NBAF), Manhattan, Kansas. You will serve as supervisor over a staff responsible for Utility Plant Maintenance and Repair and Utility Plant Operations. Managing operations on a 24‑hour, 365‑day per year basis, including evenings, nights, weekends, holidays, and all other non‑standard work times.

Work environment includes biocontainment facilities that may require entry into BSL‑3, BSL‑3 enhanced, BSL‑3 Ag, and BSL‑4 laboratories. The incumbent must demonstrate the physical and psychological capability to perform normal duties, including the ability to shower out of biocontainment, remove any skin conditions or medical devices that would impede entry, and follow decontamination instructions. Medical clearance is required for periodic fitness for duty physicals and if a respirator is required.

Baseline blood sampling may be required for employees entering biocontainment facilities, and immunization against transmissible diseases may be required. Employees must adhere to quarantine requirements associated with BSL‑3+ facilities. Violations may result in removal from employment or disciplinary action.

Experience includes all paid, unpaid, and volunteer work through programs such as the National Service (e.g., Peace Corps, Ameri Corps) and other professional, philanthropic, spiritual, or community organizations. Volunteer work is credited if it provides critical competencies relevant to the role.
