Primary Accountabilities

Interns engage in a hands‑on, immersive construction internship. This position is ideal for individuals looking to gain practical experience, develop technical skills, and work on live construction projects. The internship will provide exposure to multiple aspects of the construction process, with opportunities to contribute directly to tasks while learning from experienced professionals in the field.

Major Duties
  • Site Cleanup and Organization
    • Assist in maintaining a clean and safe work environment by removing debris, clearing pathways, and organizing tools and equipment.
    • Ensure materials and supplies are properly stored and job sites are prepared for work.
    • Support safety protocols by helping to identify and address potential hazards during cleanup.
  • Demolition
    • Participate in the demolition of structures or portions of structures as directed, using hand tools and construction machinery.
    • Help remove materials like drywall, wood, metal, or concrete from sites and prepare for disposal or recycling.
    • Assist with sorting materials for recycling or proper disposal per environmental regulations.
  • Carpentry and Framing
    • Assist carpenters in the construction of basic framing, including walls, doors, windows, and structures using wood and metal framing materials.
    • Help install basic components like trim, moldings, and other carpentry tasks under supervision.
    • Learn how to safely use hand tools and power tools, such as hammers, saws, drills, and screwdrivers.
  • Concrete Work
    • Assist with the preparation of concrete mixes for pouring foundations, slabs, or other concrete structures.
    • Participate in the pouring, finishing, and curing of concrete as directed by the crew.
    • Help with formwork, including setting up and removing molds used for pouring concrete.
  • Material Handling
    • Help with the loading, unloading, and transportation of materials such as lumber, cement, insulation, and tools to and from the job site.
    • Organize materials on‑site for ease of access by other team members and ensure efficient use of resources.
  • General Labor Assistance
    • Provide general labor support on various tasks as needed, including assisting skilled workers on‑site and helping in task coordination.
    • Carry out basic labor functions such as digging, trenching, lifting, and moving materials to ensure the site is operational and work can proceed as scheduled.
    • Assist in the setup of scaffolding, ladders, and other necessary temporary structures.
  • Safety and Compliance
    • Adhere to all safety standards and protocols to ensure a safe working environment for yourself and your team.
    • Regularly inspect tools and equipment for proper functioning and report any malfunctions.
    • Participate in safety training sessions and assist in maintaining compliance with OSHA regulations and other job site safety requirements.
  • Team Collaboration
    • Work as part of a team under the direction of senior workers, foremen, or site managers.
    • Communicate effectively with team members to complete tasks and ensure job site operations run smoothly.
    • Observe and learn from experienced construction workers to gain insights into building methods, materials, and industry best practices.
  • Documentation and Reporting
    • Assist with daily documentation and logs related to job site activities, material usage, and progress.
    • Help record any issues, delays, or safety concerns that arise on‑site and contribute to solutions.
    • Use construction management software (Procore or similar) to track and report job site progress as needed.
  • Leading/Managing Peers and Subcontractors
    • Take on a leadership role by managing or leading small teams of peers on specific tasks, ensuring that the work is completed on schedule and according to quality standards.
    • Coordinate subcontractor activities, ensuring their work aligns with the project timeline and meets BHS Construction's quality standards.
    • Communicate effectively with subcontractors, directing their efforts and ensuring clear understanding of expectations, deadlines, and safety protocols.
    • Troubleshoot and resolve any issues that arise with tasks or subcontractor activities, ensuring minimal disruption to the overall project.
