- A. Possess knowledge of the organ and keyboard and the ability to play hymns, liturgy, and easy anthem accompaniments at sight.
- B. Possess knowledge of basic music theory, including simple transpositions or harmonizing a melody.
- C. Possess the ability to sing and play accurate pitch and rhythm.
- D. Possess a working knowledge of the Lutheran liturgy, matching appropriate keyboard music with the themes of the church year.
- E. Possess the ability to work well with others.
- A. Select and provide organ/piano music for two regular weekly services and other seasonal services of the church, such as Advent, Christmas Eve, Ash Wednesday, mid-week Lenten services, Maundy Thursday and Good Friday services.
- B. Lead music for choir(s) and congregation for Sunday morning and Wednesday evening worship services and rehearsals.
- C. Provide music for weddings and funerals held at the church, consulting with wedding couples or families, as needed. Compensation of at least $100 will be provided by the family (but is frequently more depending of the family’s generosity), or $150 for a wedding, if it includes a rehearsal. If the family doesn’t provide compensation, the church will provide a $100/$150 (taxable) stipend.
The services of another musician may be used with the permission of the regular one. - D. Inform the pastor of the current condition of all instruments, and any necessary maintenance. Arrange for regular tuning of the organ and piano.
- E. Work to provide guidance for the worship life of the congregation, while coordinating worship planning with the Pastor.
- F. Attendance is encouraged at one worship and/or music workshop per year. The church may reimburse expenses for this workshop upon Church Council approval.
- G. Maintain professional competency.
- H. Provide special worship music during the summer or anytime when the choir is not singing, when possible. Accompany soloists as requested/needed.
- I. Encourage youth of the congregation to take part in worship services, when possible, by providing instrumental/vocal solos for preludes, offertories, postludes, anthems or recitals.
- J. Secure a replacement when on vacation, sick, or otherwise unable to perform the duties of the musician, when possible.
- K. Furnish her/his own music for the preludes, offertories, and postludes, as needed.
- L. Instruments are available to the DOMM for private lessons, as needed.
The Director of Music Ministries will report to the Pastor.
EvaluationA minimum of once per year by Pastor along with a member of the Personnel Committee.
Weekly Hours of Employment20 hours per week unless otherwise specified.
