JOB BRIEF:
* The Principal of Manhattan Virtual Academy (MVA) provides instructional, operational, and administrative leadership for a public virtual school based in Manhattan, KS. The principal is responsible for sustaining and expanding a high-quality virtual learning program rooted in strong instruction, authentic relationships, and student-centered learning. This role ensures compliance with district, state, and federal requirements; oversees school operations, personnel, and fiscal management;
and advances innovative instructional practices that prepare students for future success. The principal also builds strategic partnerships with families, district leadership, and community stakeholders to elevate program visibility, strengthen trust, and support sustainable enrollment growth.

QUALIFICATIONS:
* Kansas Building Leadership License.
* Masters degree in Building Leadership.
* At least five years of experience in education, including experience as a classroom teacher.
* Previous administrator or leadership experience preferred.
* Experience in a virtual or blended learning environment preferred.
* Knowledge of Kansas State Department of Education virtual education requirements, accreditation processes, and state funding guidelines.
* All USD 383 employees must pass a background check.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Leads and supports the implementation of high-quality virtual instruction aligned to Kansas Standards and the National Standards for Quality Online Teaching (NSQOT); oversees curriculum development and implementation; and promotes a culture of high expectations, belonging, accountability, and culturally responsive practices within the virtual learning environment.
* Provides daily operational leadership and oversight of staffing and program implementation, including monitoring enrollment, attendance, staffing assignments, student engagement, compliance requirements, and instructional delivery to ensure effective and responsive school operations.
* Actively participates in district-level collaboration and professional learning in Manhattan, Kansas, and designs and leads school-based professional development aligned with district priorities, evaluation systems, and continuous improvement efforts.
* Initiates, designs, and implements programs aligned with school improvement goals and identified student needs.
* Prepares and monitors the schools budget, oversees expenditures of allocated funds, and supervises the appropriate use of school resources as applicable within a virtual program.
* Interprets and enforces district policies, administrative regulations, and applicable state and federal laws, and ensures accurate recordkeeping and reporting in accordance with district and state requirements.
* Cultivates relationships with students and families across the state through visibility, accessibility, consistent communication, and the development of both virtual and in-person community-building opportunities.
* Oversees hiring, supervision, evaluation, and support of school personnel, and conducts regular staff meetings.
* Establishes and maintains robust relationships with community and statewide stakeholders to increase awareness of the virtual school, promote program offerings, and support sustainable enrollment growth.
* Provides leadership and oversight for academic, social-emotional, special education, and postsecondary supports, and attends or assigns a designee to serve as the Local Education Agency (LEA) representative at all IEP meetings.
* Performs other duties or responsibilities as assigned by the administration.
