Job Description

TITLE: English Language Teacher

JOB BRIEF:

  • English Language Arts are part of the core curriculum offered at Manhattan-Ogden, USD 383. The primary function of a language arts instructor is to teach the English Language Arts through reading, writing, listening, and speaking. The English Language Arts teacher uses a variety of media to help students appreciate the English language and acquire basic language arts skills.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Kansas Teaching License.
  • Degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
  • Certified with secondary endorsement.
  • All USD 383 employees must pass a background check.

REPORTS TO: Building Principal

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develops and delivers instruction aligned with district philosophy, instructional goals, and state standards.
  • Guides students in maintaining acceptable standards of classroom behavior.
  • Employs a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media, consistent with the physical limitations of the location provided and the needs and capabilities of the individuals or students group involved.
  • Develops and maintains a classroom environment conducive to effective learning within the limits of the resources provided by the district.
  • Demonstrates instructional and interpersonal strategies and techniques that are responsive to the cultural, ethnic, economic, and linguistic differences of students.
  • Evaluates student progress on a continual basis and reports at designated times.
  • Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulations.
  • Assists in upholding and enforcing school rules, administrative regulations, and Board policy.
  • Makes provisions for being available to students and parents for educational purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested to do so under reasonable terms.
  • Works to establish and maintain open lines of communication with students and their parents concerning both the broad academic and behavioral progress of all assigned students.
  • Cooperates with other members of staff in planning instructional goals, objectives, and methods.
  • Other duties as assigned by the administration.

  • District provided devices - iPad, laptop and/or desktop for certified staff.

PAID COLLABORATION TIME.

FLSA STATUS: Exempt

EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on evaluation of certified personnel.
