Job Title: Geography Teacher

Job Brief: The Geography Teacher is responsible for planning and delivering engaging instruction in geography and related social sciences. This role helps students develop an understanding of physical and human geography, cultures, environmental issues, and map skills while promoting problem solving skills, research, and problem‑solving abilities.

Qualifications
  • Kansas Teaching License.
  • Degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
  • Certified with secondary endorsement.
  • All USD 383 employees must pass a background check.

Reports To

Building Principal.

Job Responsibilities
  • Develops and delivers instruction aligned with district philosophy, instructional goals, and state standards.
  • Guides students in maintaining acceptable standards of classroom behavior.
  • Employs a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media, consistent with the physical limitations of the location provided and the needs and capabilities of the individuals or students group involved.
  • Develops and maintains a classroom environment conducive to effective learning within the limits of the resources provided by the district.
  • Demonstrates instructional and interpersonal strategies and techniques that are responsive to the cultural, ethnic, economic, and linguistic differences of students.
  • Evaluates student progress on a continual basis and reports at designated times.
  • Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulations.
  • Assists in upholding and enforcing school rules, administrative regulations, and Board policy.
  • Makes provisions for being available to students and parents for educational purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested to do so under reasonable terms.
  • Works to establish and maintain open lines of communication with students and their parents concerning both the broad academic and behavioral progress of all assigned students.
  • Cooperates with other members of staff in planning instructional goals, objectives, and methods.
  • Other duties as assigned by the administration.

Paid Collaboration Time

FLSA Status:
Exempt.

Evaluation

Performance will be evaluated annually in accordance with the Board of Education’s policy on evaluation of certified personnel.
