Job Description

Flint Hills Christian School in Manhattan, KS is seeking a 5th-12th Grade Choir Teacher. A person of deep and active faith in Jesus Christ who is committed to helping students grow musically, academically, spiritually, and socially. The ideal candidate will be biblically grounded, caring, dependable, and passionate about both Christian education and music.

• This individual should be an enthusiastic and skilled educator who recognizes and develops the unique abilities of students across a wide range of ages and experience levels. The successful candidate will demonstrate integrity, humility, creativity, strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and consistent follow-through.
• The 5th-12th Grade Choir Teacher at Flint Hills Christian School is responsible for providing Christ-centered, engaging, and developmentally appropriate vocal music instruction for students in grades 5-12. The position includes directing secondary choir classes and preparing students for concerts, seasonal programs, and other school performances.
• The Choir Teacher helps students develop vocal technique, musical knowledge, confidence, creativity, appreciation, and performance ability. The teacher evaluates student growth and provides instruction in areas such as singing, harmony, music theory, sight-reading, rhythm, musical literature, ensemble skills, stage presence, and other concepts appropriate to the grade levels assigned.
• The Choir Teacher intentionally integrates a biblical worldview throughout instruction and helps students recognize music as a gift from God that can be developed and used with excellence for His glory. The teacher models Christlike character, encourages healthy relationships, and creates an environment in which students are challenged, supported, and encouraged to grow as individuals and as an ensemble.

  • Willingness and ability to model biblical principles in relationships with students, families, colleagues, and the broader school community.
  • Active involvement in a Bible-believing local church.
  • A desire to use music instruction and performance as opportunities for discipleship and spiritual growth.

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university required.
• Degree in music education, music, education, or a closely related field preferred.
• Previous experience teaching music to elementary, middle school, or high school students preferred.
• Experience directing choirs, concerts, or student performances preferred.
• Knowledge of vocal music, music theory, music appreciation, conducting, sight-reading, and age-appropriate music instruction.
• Ability to provide effective instruction to students of varying ages, abilities, and levels of musical experience.
• Current ACSI certification or state teaching license preferred, or willingness to pursue and maintain certification as required by FHCS and ACSI.
• Experience in a Christian school, church music setting, or other ministry environment preferred.

NOTE
:
This position may be structured as full-time or part-time depending on the candidate’s availability, assigned teaching load, and additional school responsibilities. The 5th-12th Grade Choir Teacher reports directly to the Secondary Principal and works in close collaboration with the Band Teacher.
