Job Title: Wind Technician at Ironwood Wind Farm
Location: 12690 Eagle RD, Spearville, KS 67876
OverviewDeriva Energy, a portfolio company of Brookfield Renewable U.S., is a nationwide leader in sustainable energy providing wind, solar, resilient backup power, and managed energy services to over 1,000 projects across the United States. With a total electric capacity exceeding 5,100 megawatts of nonregulated renewable energy, we are seeking a Wind Technician for our Ironwood Wind Farm.
Responsibilities- Maintain a high level of safety awareness at all times.
- Climb heights of 300 ft. and greater several times daily.
- Diagnose and resolve faults on turbines, including mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic problems.
- Perform troubleshooting to identify root causes and execute corrective actions or open service cases with equipment manufacturers.
- Conduct energy isolation in accordance with Lock Out / Tag Out procedures.
- Perform pad‑mounted transformer switching following Hazardous Energy Controls procedures.
- Execute small or large corrective tasks on wind turbines.
- Carry out preventative maintenance, corrective maintenance, performance monitoring, and evaluation.
- Maintain turbines in a safe, high‑quality, and efficient manner.
- Complete EH&S documentation and necessary paperwork (work orders, timesheets, tool and PPE inventory, etc.) within Maximo.
- Pass a background check and drug test prior to hire.
- Adhere to the safe working weight requirement (maximum 265 lbs.).
- Wind Technician – Level I:
High School/GED; ability to complete Level I job performance measures, training, and the Deriva Energy Renewables Academy within 1 year. - Wind Technician – Level II:
- External candidates:
High School/GED, ≥3 years related work experience, and must pass required Turbine Technician I and Electrical Operator I JPMs within probationary period. - Internal candidates:
High School/GED, ≥1 year technical experience as a Deriva Energy Wind Technician, and must have completed Turbine Technician 1 and Electrical Operator 1 JPMs.
- External candidates:
- AAS degree or certification in Wind/Renewable Energy or related field.
- Experience with Siemens 2.3 ESS turbines.
- Experience with multiple wind turbine supplier technologies.
- High‑voltage and substation maintenance experience.
- Familiarity with mechanical and electronic testing equipment (voltage testers, amp clamps, oscilloscopes, hand and power tools).
- Knowledge of heavy equipment for facility maintenance and working knowledge of crane and rigging requirements.
- Proficiency with Maximo EZ Max mobile work and My Time management systems.
- Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
- CPR and AED certification.
- TSL tower climber and rescue & EEM training.
- Forklift certification.
- Valid driver’s license required.
- Travel to projects as needed.
- Exposure to mechanical, electrical, and other hazards.
- Exposure to noisy, dusty conditions and chemicals or solvents.
- Operate equipment including forklifts and commercial motor vehicles.
- Ability to climb and work on turbine towers up to 400 ft. daily.
- Ability to lift 75 lbs. individually.
- Walking, climbing stairs, ladders, and/or scaffolds.
- Working in all‑weather outdoor conditions (extreme heat, cold, wind, rain, snow).
- Completion of OEM or third‑party technical specialty training program.
