Position Summary

The position (K0224931) establishes and maintains a program for evaluating and assuring compliance by public water supply systems with federal and state law and national primary drinking water standards. It coordinates with federal and state personnel to assure the state program is administered consistently with federal requirements, oversees development of SOPs and Survival Guides for all drinking water regulations.

Job Responsibilities
  • Oversee SDWIS data management system necessary to maintain basic public water supply inventory information, compliance tracking, evaluation of program effectiveness and reporting to EPA.
  • Oversee operations and maintenance of the Public Water Supply Data Collector.
  • Oversee coordination with IT and outside contractors related to the ongoing maintenance of the PWS Viewer, Consecutive Connection Tool, and Drinking Water Watch.
Qualifications Education:
  • High School, GED
Licensing & Certification:
  • Valid Driver's License – required for operating state vehicles, private vehicles, or rental vehicles for the benefit of the State.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Professional geology license recognized by the Kansas Board of Technical Professions plus 4 years of experience as a licensed geologist.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Four years of experience in Physical or Natural Sciences.
  • Proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access.
  • Technical Writing.
  • Project Management.
  • Knowledge of data management methods and EPA SDWIS/FED, SDWIS/STATE.
  • Knowledge of federal and state laws and regulations concerning public water supplies.
  • Knowledge of public water supply treatment and distribution systems.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain records and prepare reports.
  • Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with co‑workers and local officials.
  • Ability to plan and supervise the work of staff or professionals and technical employees.
  • Three years of professional experience in the study and resolution of environmental problems.
