About This Role
The Emergency Management Specialist develops and maintains strategies that ensure the university can sustain essential functions during emergencies and disruptions. This role helps safeguard the university’s mission of teaching, research, and service by ensuring preparedness for both anticipated and unforeseen events. The EM Specialist also coordinates emergency planning, training, exercises, and outreach initiatives to strengthen campus readiness and support incident response efforts.

What You'll Need to SucceedMinimum Qualifications:
- Requires a high school diploma (or equivalent) and four years of relevant experience. Requirements may be met through a combination of work experience and education.
Preferred Qualifications:
- A bachelor’s degree in emergency management, emergency response, public safety, public health, criminal justice, public administration, or closely related field.
- One year of experience in emergency management, emergency response, public safety, public health, criminal justice, or public administration.
- Knowledge of local, state and federal regulations, standards and policies related to emergency management and continuity of operations.
- Knowledge of plan review, Incident Command System, Continuity of Operations Plans, Emergency Operation Center operations.
- Knowledge of how to plan and conduct drills/exercises.
- Skill in oral and written communication, and skill or experience utilizing mediation practices to reach consensus.
- Skill in building relationships with campus and community partners.
- Skill at intermediate level in Microsoft Office – Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook and Teams
- Ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of individuals with diverse backgrounds.
- Ability to complete tasks and projects in a timely manner.
- Ability to draft event and incident action plans.
- Ability to perform under pressure and meet deadlines.
