Job Description

Summary The Information Technology Specialist with primary focus on a database administration for specialized scientific, laboratory, and administrative systems in support of both APHIS and Agricultural Research Service ( ARS ) users at the National Bio and Agro-Defense Facility ( NBAF ) in a combined services environment. This position is responsible for database management within the Information Technology unit of the NBAF based in Manhattan, KS.

Responsibilities The duties may include, but are not limited to:

  • Works with database system dependencies, including storage, networking, and server operating systems.
  • Works with application middleware solutions, including configuration and securing of application environments.
  • Ensures that the data management components remain in good working order and infrastructure issues are promptly addressed.
  • Researches, tests, and proposes new database and data management solutions to meet the ever-changing needs of the NBAF scientific community and its stakeholders.
  • Provides operational support for other necessary system components as they relate to databases, such as laboratory information systems, stakeholder submissions, and quality management.
  • Provides support for application development platforms, including integration and connectivity to database and data management systems.
  • Works with both Mac and Windows endpoint on the installation and integration of system patches, updates, and enhancements.
Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Applicants must meet all qualifications and eligibility requirements by the closing date of the announcement including time-in-grade restrictions, specialized experience and/or education, as defined below. TIME
-IN- GRADE :
Current federal employees applying for a promotion opportunity must meet time-in-grade ( TIG ) requirement of 52 weeks of service at the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the position being filled. FOR THE GS-12 GRADE LEVEL :
Applicants must have one year of specialized experience (equivalent to the GS-11 level) that may have been obtained in the private or public (local, county, state, Federal) sectors which demonstrates:
Assisting with the installation and integration of system patches, updates, and enhancements to Windows and Mac workstations;
Troubleshooting and resolving a range of technical issues involving computers, devices, and mixed hardware/software environments; and Providing general technical guidance on system capabilities, configurations, and integration needs under normal supervision. In addition, all applicants qualifying based on experience must have IT-related experience demonstrating each of the four competencies listed below. Applicants must demonstrate possession of these competencies within the body of the resume;
