Job Title: Custodian – City of Manhattan, KS
Location: Manhattan, KS
Salary: $16.46 - $19.76 per hour (DOE)
Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM (may vary)
Type: Regular, Non‑Exempt (Full‑time)
Summary / ObjectiveAssists in the operation and overall appearance of multiple City of Manhattan locations, including but not limited to City Hall, Peace Memorial Auditorium, Douglas Center & Annex, Douglass Activity Center, Anthony Recreation Center, Eisenhower Recreation Center, Pavilion, City Park Activity Center, Roundhouse, Municipal Court, and other buildings as assigned or Aggieville Garage by performing extensive cleaning and minor maintenance.
Essential Functions- Maintains City of Manhattan facilities throughout the day by daily cleaning upkeep and monitoring.
- Performs custodial duties using appropriate cleaning methods and operates building maintenance equipment such as vacuums, buffers, scrubbers, and floor cleaning machines, and uses hand tools and drills to perform minor repair work.
- Performs building maintenance including vacuuming, mopping, cleaning and disinfecting restrooms, dusting, window cleaning and trash collection.
- Follows policies and procedures involving safety hazards, handling of materials and cleaning chemicals, and reporting of deficiencies.
- Maintains a written log of work completed and material usage.
- Monitors and tracks cleaning and paper supplies and reports supplies and material needs to the Supervisor.
- Sets up meetings and gets facilities ready for events.
- Performs other duties as assigned, including special projects in consultation with the Supervisor; outdoor maintenance and upkeep of sidewalks, entryways, snow removal, and overall cleanliness of these areas; monthly fire extinguisher and AED checks throughout the city facilities; and may be required to work varied shifts and cover weekend events as needed.
- High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Six (6) months of custodial/building maintenance or similar experience (preferred).
- Boot, clothing and vehicle allowances, if applicable.
- City‑issued cell phone, if applicable.
- Retirement/Pension – City employees are required by statute to contribute to the Kansas Public Employees Retirement System (KPERS). Voluntary retirement contributions are offered with Nationwide, Mission Square, and Empower KPERS 457.
