Position Summary

Position Summary

This position is responsible for championing safety programs and a safety-first culture at the plant. It will also provide valuable feedback to Supervisors and Managers regarding the performance of the safety program and the engagement of employees within the facility.

Essential Functions
  • Champion safety program(s) to promote a safety-first culture at the plant
  • Create, revise, and update safety material
  • Maintain all record keeping associated with safety program(s)
  • Communicate safety progress with plant leadership
  • Oversee the safety orientation program
  • Coach employees and give feedback as needed regarding safety
  • Lead a safety HPT
  • Occasional travel required for additional training and/or best-practice sharing
  • Flexible schedule with all shifts weekly, and as needed
  • Help execute the site safety plan with attention to OSHA compliance
  • Perform tasks as assigned by leadership
  • Able to foster professionalism with all associates along with internal and external customers
  • Work safely in accordance with regulations, standards, and procedures in a manner that eliminates risk to health and the environment. Notify leadership of unsafe conditions or practices, unlawful activities and activities which present unreasonable health and/or environmental risk. Report all safety and/or environmental incidents to leadership immediately.
Department Specific / Non-Essential Functions
  • Participate in peer-based teams (i.e., Natural High Performance Teams), and work with groups to initiate and implement programs such as Lean Manufacturing and 5-S
  • Lead or participate with the Safety High-Performance Team to identify opportunities and areas for improvement
  • Lead or participate on project teams, star point teams and kaizen events when needed
  • Attend and participate in all training opportunities required to develop in the role
Qualifications
  • Education: High School diploma or GED preferred
  • Experience: Previous experience in manufacturing preferred

    Qualifications:

    • Good verbal and interpersonal communication skills
    • Sound decision making skills
    • Good math, reading and writing skills
    • Be able to exercise continuous mental, visual, and audio attention
  • Skills /

    Competencies:

    Basic computer skills, near‑acuity vision for reading information, constant alertness to surroundings and product quality with attention to detail, and ability to operate material handling equipment and hoist if needed

Organizational Relationships / Scope
  • Report directly to the Plant Manager
  • Work closely with other departments to resolve issues with the processes & equipment
Working Conditions
  • High noise levels from operating machines and equipment
  • Physical hazards from operating machines and moving reels
  • Exposure to nuisance fumes
  • Work in areas where safety equipment will be required (steel toe shoes, eye protection, hearing protection, high‑visibility clothing)
  • Standing is required for extended periods of time. Walking, pushing, pulling, reaching, bending, turning, twisting, squatting, and lifting is performed on a regular basis
  • Requires high degree of manual dexterity, which could be performed under restrictive conditions
  • Requires flexible hours and short notice for overtime
