The Assistant Director of Communications is responsible for the day-to-day execution of communications and marketing activities for the Kansas Wheat Commission (KWC) and the Kansas Association of Wheat Growers (KAWG). Working under the direction of the Vice President of Communications, this position translates complex agricultural, nutrition, and industry topics into clear, engaging, and audience-appropriate messaging and ensures consistency across platforms and organizations.
The role is evenly split between consumer marketing and producer-focused marketing and communications.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and produce consumer-facing marketing content, including social media, digital content, newsletters, and promotional materials
- Manage day-to-day social media activity and content calendars
- Create and distribute communications for Kansas wheat producers, including newsletters, emails, reports, and meeting materials
- Translate research, policy, and industry information into clear, usable communications for producers, consumers and policymakers
- Support communications for meetings, events, and outreach activities
- Coordinate with internal staff and external vendors to produce communications materials
- Ensure accuracy, clarity, and consistency in all communications
- Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, journalism, agriculture, or a related field
- Minimum of 6-8 years of experience in communications and/or marketing preferred
- Strong writing, editing, and content development skills
- Experience managing digital content and social media platforms
- Ability to explain complex or technical topics clearly
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects
- Occasional travel and some evening or weekend work may be required, especially during Kansas wheat harvest
The office location for this position will be the Kansas Wheat Innovation Center in Manhattan, Kansas.
