Shift: Night Shift (18:30 – 07:00) | 36 Hours Per Week
Unit: Nursing Surgical Genl (Surgical 22-bed unit / Medical 28-bed unit)
Job SummarySeeking a dedicated Med/Surg RN for a 13-week night assignment. This facility is a key provider in the Flint Hills region, and the Surgical General unit focuses on postoperative recovery for a variety of specialties. The unit is designed for high efficiency with 24-hour Hospitalist coverage to support nursing staff in managing patient care through the night.
Key Responsibilities- Postoperative Management: Provide expert care for patients recovering from General Surgery, Orthopedics, Urology, and ENT procedures.
- Complex Medical Care: Manage patients with comorbidities related to Cardiology, Pulmonary, Neurology, and Nephrology.
- Clinical Monitoring: Assess surgical sites, manage drains (Jackson-Pratt, Hemovac), and monitor for post-surgical complications like DVT, hemorrhage, or infection.
- Documentation: Use the facility's EMR (typically Cerner within the Ascension network) to maintain accurate, real-time records.
- Collaborative Practice: Coordinate with the night hospitalist and interdisciplinary teams to adjust care plans based on patient response.
- Experience: Minimum 2 years of acute care Hospital RN experience is required.
- Licensure: Active Kansas State RN License or a Multi-state Compact License.
- Certifications: BLS (AHA) required.
- Skill Set: Proficiency in postoperative protocols and general medical management.
- Surgical Unit: 22 beds focusing on surgery and orthopedics.
- Medical Unit: 28 beds focusing on chronic and acute medical conditions.
- Staffing Ratios: * Days: 1:5
- Nights: 1:6 (Your shift)
- Support: 24/7 on-site Hospitalists are available for immediate clinical consultation.
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend.
- Overtime: Calculated beyond 40 hours per week.
Orthopedic Recovery
Manhattan's surgical unit handles a high volume of joint replacements. Nurses are responsible for managing continuous passive motion (CPM) machines, coordinating early mobilization with Physical Therapy, and monitoring neurovascular status (the "5 Ps") to ensure optimal recovery.
Manhattan is known as "The Little Apple" and is home to Kansas State University.
