About This RoleThe Veterinary Health Center (VHC) within the College of Veterinary Medicine is seeking an overnight Veterinary Nurse I, II, or III to join our dedicated Intensive Care Unit (ICU) team. This position involves providing vital care for critical patients, operating medical equipment, and performing or assisting in technical procedures. Nurses on this team monitor medical records, organize technical work, maintain equipment and supply statuses, and coordinate animal treatments.
The role requires strong communication and collaboration skills. Working hours are Sunday‑Tuesday, 6 pm–6 am, with occasional Saturdays 6 pm–6 am.
The VHC is a teaching hospital offering routine, emergency, and specialty care. Located in Manhattan, Kansas, it serves a vibrant college community. We provide comprehensive benefits including paid time off, health insurance, life insurance, and retirement plans.

Minimum Qualifications
- Veterinary Nurse I: Completion of a two‑year college program in veterinary and animal technology accredited by the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA).
- Veterinary Nurse II: Completion of a two‑year college program in veterinary and animal technology accredited by the AVMA and two years of relevant experience.
- Veterinary Nurse III: Completion of a two‑year college program in veterinary or animal technology accredited by the AVMA and five years of relevant experience as a veterinary technician (RVT, LVT, CVT) after passing the Veterinary Technician National Exam.
- All Veterinary Nurses: Knowledge of basic veterinary medical concepts, animal behavior, and animal husbandry; skill in interpersonal and written communication; basic computer skills; willingness to master new techniques; ability to handle, restrain, and provide medical treatments to domestic animals; adherence to safety procedures; ability to multi‑task in a high‑intensity environment; ability to perform general diagnostic procedures; time management and prioritizing daily responsibilities;
ability to maintain ordinary veterinary hospital equipment. - Veterinary Nurse II: Advanced knowledge of nursing care and service requirements and policies.
- Veterinary Nurse III: Ability to be a self‑starter and proactive in assisting others; advanced knowledge of nursing care and service requirements and policies.
- Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States at the time of employment.
Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. on an ongoing basis without sponsorship.

Anticipated Hiring Pay Range• Nurse I: $21.36–$24.53 per hour
• Nurse II: $23.04–$27.96 per hour
