The Division of Biology and Kansas Cooperative Fish and Wildlife Research Unit at Kansas State University are seeking four full-time Research Technicians to join an extensive research program beginning August 2026, but start dates are flexible until January 2027.

The Division of Biology awards undergraduate degrees in three areas (Biology, Microbiology, and Fisheries, Wildlife & Conservation Biology) and currently serves over six hundred majors. The Kansas Cooperative Fish and Wildlife Unit conducts applied wildlife research throughout Kansas. Kansas State University is located in the city of Manhattan
Worksite Description
This position is On-site. The successful applicant will be responsible for leading field crews for an extensive research project on greater prairie-chicken demography, space use, habitat selection, response to Conservation Reserve Program land, and response to annual prescribed fire. The successful applicant will be responsible for supervising daily activities of one to three Research Aides.
All employees must reside in the United States when they begin working to comply with state law. K-State is unable to provide remote or hybrid work opportunities for residents of the state of Idaho.
What You'll Need to Succeed
Minimum Qualifications:
* Requires a high school diploma (or equivalent). Valid driver's license.
Preferred Qualifications:
* B.S. degree in Biology, Natural Resources, Statistics or equivalent field.
* Demonstrated field sampling skills - in particular vegetation identification and structure measurement.
* Experience in trapping and handling prairie grouse.
* Familiarity with securely managing large data sets.
* Working knowledge of GIS and OnX software, including ability to create and maintain feature class relationships.
* Capable of working in extreme environmental conditions and walking across uneven terrain.
* Strong written and oral communication skills with the ability to interface with a variety of private landowners and state/federal natural wildlife agencies.
* Must be able to work in a collegial manner with field crews in common field housing.
* At least one year of field research experience with prairie grouse or upland game birds.
* Experience in identification of plant species in Kansas.
* Experience in supervising field crews.
