Biological Science Technician

Summary

Position located within the United States Department of Agriculture, Agricultural Research Service, Arthropod‑Borne Animal Diseases Research Unit, Plains Area (Manhattan, KS). Responsible for data and code management and analyses that support research on environmental drivers of arthropod‑borne livestock diseases across spatial and temporal scales, developing innovative and relevant solutions that minimize costs to producers.

• Collect, prepare, evaluate, and verify samples/data and supporting records.
• Tabulate, statistically analyze, and summarize data using authorized computers and software packages.
• Maintain, calibrate, and modify equipment and automated systems used for test and evaluation procedures.
• Participate as a team member with the scientist in all phases of the research process and assume full technical and operational responsibility for specific project phases.
• Select appropriate methods and procedures for carrying the project plan to completion.
• Maintain records and locate and compile data and other information from various sources.

Citizenship / Background

• Must be a U.S. Citizen or U.S. National.
• Male applicants born after 12/31/1959 must be Selective Service registered or exempt.
• Subject to satisfactory adjudication of background investigation and/or fingerprint check.
• Must successfully pass the E‑Verify employment verification check.
• Direct deposit is required for all Federal employees.
• 1‑year probationary period unless previous federal service is creditable; performance evaluated during this period with possible conclusion of employment on completion.
