As a Cheese Specialist, this position will be responsible for filling customer orders, handling food in a safe manner, ordering and receiving products, ensuring orders are correct, labeling, dating, and placing product away. You will also provide courteous, friendly, and efficient customer service to both customers and team members, thereby maintaining a positive company image.

Reporting Relations

Accountable and reports to:
District Store Director, Store Manager, Assistant Manager – Perishables, Store Operations, Health Wellness Home, Food Service Director, Deli Department Manager. Positions that report to you:
None.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provide prompt, efficient, and friendly customer service while exhibiting care, concern, and patience.
  • Smile and greet customers in a friendly manner in the department or elsewhere in the store.
  • Make an effort to learn customers’ names and address them by name whenever possible.
  • Assist customers by escorting them to desired products, securing out-of-reach items, unloading heavy items, noting suggestions or requests, and performing other tasks that enhance the shopping experience.
  • Answer the telephone promptly and provide helpful service, including taking customer orders.
  • Take customer orders at the delis counter.
  • Work with co‑workers as a team to ensure customer satisfaction and a pleasant work environment.
  • Review orders for the day.
  • Understand and practice proper sanitation procedures to keep the work area clean and neat.
  • Review the freshness status and appearance of food.
  • Ensure an adequate food supply is available and follow a production list.
  • Anticipate product needs for the department on a daily basis.
  • Prepare, finish, and replenish product as necessary.
  • Pull product from cooler/freezer for preparation.
  • Check in product, put product away, and review invoices.
  • Run the department register, receive payment, and make change where applicable.
  • Remove trash in a timely manner.
  • Maintain strict adherence to department and company guidelines related to personal hygiene and dress.
  • Adhere to company policies and individual store guidelines.
  • Report to work when scheduled and on time.
Secondary Duties and Responsibilities
  • Wash dishes as necessary.
  • Order product and supplies as necessary.
  • Price product for customers as necessary.
  • Deliver orders as needed.
  • Assist in other areas of store as needed.
  • Perform other job‑related duties and special projects as required.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Worker Characteristics
  • Ability to carry out detailed written or verbal instructions; handle a few concrete variables.
  • Ability to perform simple addition and subtraction; copy figures, count, and record.
  • Ability to understand and follow written or demonstrated instructions; write identifying information; request supplies orally or in writing.
Education and Experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent with Food Safety Certification and completion of online cheese training.
  • Six months or more of similar or related experience.
Physical Requirements
  • Exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally; up to 20 pounds frequently; and 10 pounds constantly to move objects.
  • Visual requirements: vision from 20 inches or less to more than 20 feet with or without correction, depth perception, and field of vision.
  • Perform lifting, walking, pushing, pulling, kneeling, standing, and repetitive motions, among other activities.
Working Conditions

Continual exposure to meat, cheese, dust, noise, and temperature extremes; occasional exposure to cleaning chemicals or solvents. Fast‑paced environment with significant pressure.

Equipment Used to Perform Job

Slicer, scale, shrink‑wrap machine, register, walk‑in cooler, knives, serving cases, and C.A.R.S. system.

Daily contact with internal customers and the general public; weekly contact with suppliers/vendors; contact with federal, state, or regulatory agencies as necessary.

Employment Conditions

Employment is contingent upon the successful completion of a pre‑employment drug screen.
