About This Role
The purpose of this position is to process the semen of bulls in field research demonstrations and manage daily activities of the Kansas Artificial Breeding Service Unit's semen laboratory in compliance with Certified Semen Services guidelines.
About UsThe Department of Animal Sciences and Industry (ASI) serves students, livestock producers and the animal and food industries through teaching, research and education. The Dept. of ASI prepares students for careers in the animal and food industries.
The curriculum includes the study of nutrition, reproduction, genetics, behavior, meat science and food science with production, management, and agribusiness skills. Students are given sound professional and scientific skills, a broad education and experience for contributing to our communities across the nation and abroad. Students receive excellent advisement and mentorship from faculty and professional staff and participate in extracurricular activities to develop skills to become industry leaders.

What You'll Need to SucceedMinimum Qualifications:
- Associate’s degree
- Two years of relevant experience
- Valid Driver's License
Education beyond the minimum degree requirement may count toward required experience if deemed relevant by the hiring manager. The degree requirement ensures candidates possess the applied engineering knowledge, technical design expertise and analytical skills necessary to construct, modify and maintain experimental equipment and support complex research processes within a laboratory environment. These competencies are typically developed and rigorously validated only through the comprehensive curriculum and intensive experiential experience inherent in a formal degree program.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Associate’s degree in Applied Science in Veterinary Technology
- BS or MS in Animal Sciences or a closely related field
- Experience working with cattle producers, veterinarians, and breed associations
- Practical experience with cattle production and management
- Excellent oral and written communication
- Proficiency with MS Word, Excel, and Quick Books
- Demonstrated understanding of reproductive physiology and artificial breeding with experience in semen collection, evaluation, and processing
- Experience with basic laboratory equipment and procedures
