Major Responsibilities

* Under the direction of the Assistant Commissioner of Capital A&E, is responsible for the successful completion of Capital Architecture & Engineering (A&E) projects, particularly troubleshooting concerns in design or construction that create delays.

* Work with Capital A&E design staff directly to develop strategies for addressing various risks to the successful completion of projects. Develop project specific solutions to lower the agencies risk to increased delays and cost.

* Develop overarching strategies to mitigate risks to A&E portfolio. Develop associated Standard Operating Procedures for staff reference.

* Work with both the Capital Design and Capital Construction Teams to assist in mitigating schedule and budget risks that occur during the construction phase.

* Manage the Capital A&E Expediting Team.

* Intake emergency issues that brought to the A&E unit to solve and manage the team to produce solutions for these emergent issues.

ADMINISTRATIVE PROJECT MANAGER - 83008

Minimum Qualifications

1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college in engineering, engineering technology, architecture, landscape architecture, architectural technology, construction, construction management, construction technology, sustainable design, urban planning, urban studies, city planning, transportation planning, business administration, or public administration, and five years of full-time satisfactory experience in the planning, administering or expediting of engineering design, and/or construction, or coordinating a very large engineering project, two years of which must have been in an administrative, managerial, executive or supervisory capacity;

or

2. A four year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and nine years of experience as described in "1" above; two years of which must have been in an administrative, managerial, executive or supervisory capacity; or

3. Education and/or experience equivalent to "1" or "2" above. One year of experience credit will be given for: (a) each 30 semester credits of college or university education leading to a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in engineering, engineering technology, architecture, landscape architecture, architectural technology, construction, construction management, construction technology, sustainable design, urban planning, urban studies, city planning, transportation planning, business administration, or public administration;

(b) An accredited Master's degree in one of the disciplines described in "1" above; (c) a Juris Doctor degree, or (d) a valid New York State license as a Professional Engineer, Registered Architect or Landscape Architect. However, all candidates must have the two years of the administrative, managerial, executive, or supervisory experience as described in "1" above.

Preferred Skills

1. Valid and current certification as a Professional Engineer or Registered Architect.
2. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills including public speaking and experience in translating between technical and non-technical stakeholders. 3. 10 years full-time experience in coordinating, managing, or performing Architecture and Engineering projects either in design or construction.
4. Demonstrated ability to multi-task in a fast paced environment, prioritize among competing needs, and respond quickly to requests for information.
5. Strong general management skills, including the ability to listen to and motivate staff. 6. In depth knowledge of New York City Parks Capital design approval and permitting process. 7. A driver license valid in New York State.
