Science Teacher

Roncalli High School is a ninth- through 12th-grade Catholic school located in Manitowoc, Wisconsin. The school, part of Roncalli Catholic Schools, is a learning community that serves the whole child – mind, body and spirit – while fostering academic excellence. The Science Teacher teaches all freshmen foundational science sections and environmental science sections, and any other science sections as deemed necessary by the science department. Ideal candidates should demonstrate commitment to faith, academics and service while being strong role models. Candidates also will promote a positive, charitable spirit and nurture the school environment.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Student management
  • Advisory of academic career planning

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Maintain the cleanliness, safety and stock of the chemical storage closet.
  • Calibrate pieces of lab equipment as needed.
  • Set up and take down lab equipment as needed.
  • Manage the safety of students during labs.
  • Plan and supervise environmental field research (field trips).
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Education and Experience:

    Bachelor's degree Current DPI certification Additional licenses or certifications are a plus
  • Required Skills/Abilities:
    • Plan and prepare lesson plans that meet core objectives and principles and are in line with the curriculum goals.
    • Prepare instructional aids and supplemental teaching materials, and resources consistent with learning objectives and student needs.
    • Select and requisition appropriate books, instructional aids and school supplies as needed.
    • Deliver lessons using a variety of differentiated instructional techniques that are appropriate to the academic level and meet the diverse needs of students.
    • Maximize the appropriate use of technology in the classroom as an instructional tool.
    • Encourage the development of critical thinking skills.
    • Create a safe and flexible classroom environment conducive to optimal student learning.
    • Help students to work independently and collaboratively in groups.
    • Establish and maintain standards of student behavior that conform to school and system policies and promote learning in the classroom.
    • Encourage student responsibility, cooperation, tolerance and mutual respect in a manner consistent with school and system policies and procedures.
    • Establish and monitor appropriate behavior of students in extracurricular activities.
    • Track and monitor student learning using a variety of techniques.
    • Prepare and administer assessments that are curriculum-aligned.
    • Grade assessments and assignments.
    • Keep current with system and state standardized testing and maximize student achievement on these tests.
    • Administer standardized tests in accordance with system testing programs.
    • Monitor performance and progress and modify instructional methods to meet individual needs when necessary.
    • Foster good working relationships with students, teachers, counselors, administrators and other stakeholders to support the development and well-being of the students.
    • Keep parents or guardians informed of students' academic progress, and social and behavioral issues.
    • Coordinate parent/teacher/student conferences to review students' progress.
    • Maintain accurate and complete student records including attendance, grades, assessments and test scores as required by district and school procedures, and regulations.
    • Participate in staff meetings and training sessions.
    • Undertake professional development activities to ensure continued professional growth and development of teaching skills.
  • Physical Requirements:

    Possesses physical stamina required to remain standing, walking and moving for long periods of time. Be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Other Requirements:
    Hold and maintain a valid driver's license, with no serious violations. Ability to use a computer with a working knowledge of Google Suite.

Terms:

Pass background check. Obtain and stay current with Virtus training. Position under contract. Wages are paid semi-monthly, on the 15th and last day of the month.
