MANITOWOC at our FROEDTERT HOLY FAMILY MEM HOSP facility. This position is on‑site, part of a 0.25 FTE assignment with standard hours of 10 hours per week. Shift: flexible first shift Monday to Friday, 10 hrs a week during business hours. Shift details: holidays and weekends included.
To facilitate culturally and linguistically competent communication between individuals with Limited English Proficiency (LEP) and medical providers in a manner that promotes patient safety and confidentiality. Other duties as assigned.
ExperienceA minimum of 1 year of experience in providing medical interpreting in English and the target language is required. A minimum of 3 years of directly related experience is preferred.
EducationHigh School diploma or equivalent is required. Experience at a Level I Trauma Center is preferred. Associate or Bachelor’s degree in a related field is preferred. Professional Medical Interpreter Program is preferred.
Special Skills- Bilingual in English and the target language with solid knowledge of medical terminology.
- Proficient in interpreting diagnostic processes, treatments, procedures, and preventive care.
- Culturally competent communication.
- Strong interpersonal skills to interact with patients, families, and healthcare providers.
- Ability to perform under stressful situations and medical emergencies.
- Ability to produce written translation of material such as forms, documents, patient letters, and other materials.
- Travel between locations during shift is required.
- Formal interpreter training – 40‑hour medical interpretation training program.
CCHI or NBCMI certification is preferred.
