Overview
The Machinist is responsible for running multiple CNC machines efficiently. The machinist reviews equipment regularly to report any equipment malfunctions or tooling issues, and conducts general maintenance tasks while following all safety precautions.
Responsibilities- Setup and operate CNC machining centers.
- Load and unload work fixtures, devices, tools, and programs.
- Adjust cutting tools as required.
- Follow standard work processes and record data.
- Perform duties in a safe and efficient manner.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Calculate dimensions or tolerances using instruments such as micrometers or vernier calipers.
- Machine parts to specifications using machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, shapers, or grinders.
- Measure, examine, or test completed units to check for defects and ensure conformance to specifications.
- Operate and maintain machine tools, monitor feed and speed during machining.
- Fit and assemble parts, align fixtures and cut tools, attach accessories and materials onto machines.
- Confer with numerical control programmers to verify new programs and machinery.
- Evaluate machining procedures and recommend improvements for efficiency or adaptability.
- Diagnose machine tool malfunctions, determine adjustments or repairs.
- Design fixtures, tooling, or experimental parts to meet special engineering needs.
- Dispose scrap or waste material in accordance with company policies and environmental regulations.
- Support metalworking projects from planning and fabrication through assembly, inspection, and testing.
- Install repaired or new parts into equipment, dismantle machines, examine parts for defects and replace defective parts.
- Test experimental models under simulated operating conditions.
- Set up or operate metalworking, brazing, heat‑treating, welding, or cutting equipment.
- Associate’s Degree or certification or equivalent work experience.
- 5–8 years of experience running CNC horizontal machining centers.
- Strong mechanical ability.
- Ability to read blueprints.
- Strong computer skills.
