2nd Shift Lathe Operator

This role involves setting up and operating CNC and manual lathes to produce high-quality machined components according to blueprints, specifications, and tight tolerances. You will work on 2nd shift in a well-lit machining facility as part of a small, collaborative team, ensuring all parts meet quality and safety standards.

Responsibilities
  • Set up and operate CNC lathes to produce parts according to production requirements and engineering specifications.
  • Operate manual lathes as needed to support production and prototype work.
  • Use conversational programming at the machine to create, adjust, and optimize CNC programs for efficient and accurate machining.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications to determine dimensions, tolerances, and machining processes.
  • Confirm quality requirements of machined components using micrometers, calipers, and gauges to verify dimensions and tolerances.
  • Perform complete inspection of first-run parts and document results in accordance with quality assurance procedures and processes.
  • Follow established quality assurance procedures and processes throughout the production run to maintain consistent part quality.
  • Monitor machine performance during operation and make necessary adjustments to tooling, offsets, and programs to maintain accuracy.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area in the machining department.
  • Collaborate with team members in the small machining group to meet production goals and resolve machining or quality issues.
Essential Skills
  • Ability to set up and operate CNC lathes.
  • Experience operating manual lathes.
  • Familiarity with conversational programming at the machine.
  • Strong knowledge of CNC machining and lathe machining processes.
  • Proficiency in manual machining techniques.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, including understanding specifications and tolerances.
  • Ability to confirm quality requirements using micrometers, calipers, and gauges.
  • Experience performing complete first-run part inspections and following quality assurance procedures.
  • 5+ years of experience working in machining environments.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality machined components.

Work Environment

The role is based in a well-lit machining facility, working closely with a small team in the machining area. You will regularly use CNC lathes, manual lathes, and precision measuring tools such as micrometers, calipers, and gauges. The 1st shift operates from 6:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., while this position is on 2nd shift, running Monday through Thursday from 4:00 p.m. to 2:30 a.m., with additional work on Fridays as needed.

A 2nd shift premium of an additional $4.00 per hour applies. The environment emphasizes safety, precision, and collaboration, with a focus on maintaining clean, organized work spaces and consistent quality standards.
