Hot Mill Technician

Ready to build a career, not just take a job? As a Hot Mill Technician, you'll help produce some of the highest-quality aluminum coils in the Midwest — and we'll pay you more as you learn more.

What You'll Do

You’ll play a critical role keeping our Hot Mill running continuously, rotating between key operations like the Hot Mill Operator and Upcoiler positions. Your day will include:

  • Operating the mill to reduce aluminum coils to proper specifications
  • Preparing coils for finishing at the Upcoiler station
  • Cutting and preparing slabs using overhead crane hoists and saws
  • Coiling, banding, and marking finished coils for storage
  • Inspecting coils and metal for quality defects and reporting concerns
  • Assisting with roll changes, coolant tank cleaning, and general equipment maintenance
  • Performing preventive maintenance on mill equipment, including lubrication systems and filters
  • Completing shop paperwork and daily production tracking
  • Operating a forklift to store finished coils
What We’re Looking For
  • Previous machine operation experience preferred
  • A strong work ethic and reliability
  • Flexibility with scheduling, including a willingness to cross-train
  • A positive attitude and team-player mindset in a fast-paced, safety-first environment
  • Pride in keeping a clean, organized workspace

Prior manufacturing experience is a plus — but not required. If you're trainable and motivated, we'll teach you the rest.

Why Skana?

Grow Your Pay, Grow Your Skills

Our Pay For Knowledge  program rewards you for cross‑training — the more you learn, the more you earn.

Benefits That Actually Benefit You

  • Company-wide bonus program — potential for an extra month’s pay based on company success
  • 401(k) with company match — don't leave free money on the table
  • Health, dental, and vision insurance
  • $150 safety shoe reimbursement every two years
  • Safety glasses covered 100%
  • Regular employee engagement events through our Fundation program

This is a hands‑on plant role with exposure to heat, noise, moving equipment, and forklift traffic. Required PPE includes safety glasses and safety shoes (we've got you covered on both).

Skana Aluminum Company is proud to be an equal opportunity and affirmative action employer. We welcome applicants of all backgrounds, without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, disability, protected veteran status, gender identity, sexual orientation, or any other characteristic protected by law.
