As a Field Service Technician
, you will assist with on-site installations, troubleshooting, repairs, and maintenance of telecommunications products and equipment that TDS sells and leases. This role involves direct, face-to-face contact with customers and is expected to be proactive in the sales of TDS services and products. Services include, but are not limited to, Telephony, Video/CATV/DBS, Internet, and high-speed networks. You will exceed customer expectations by delivering extraordinary customer service, identifying customer needs, and providing communications solutions.
You may demonstrate and educate customers on TDS products and seek sales opportunities while delivering solutions. Products & services include (but are not limited to):
Local Service, Central Office Services, Structured Cabling, MAC (Moves, Adds and Changes), Voice Mail, Audio and/or Video Conferencing and Non-regulated CPE.
Schedule
This position follows a Wednesday–Saturday schedule, four 10-hour shifts (8:00 AM–7:00 PM). Overtime may be required, and participation in an on-call rotation is required. Due to in-field support, the individual must reside within a 60-minute driving distance from the Plymouth, WI warehouse located at W4875 County Road U, Plymouth, WI 53073. This position is eligible for a $5,000 sign-on bonus (payout terms apply).
This role can be hired at either Field Service Technician (requisition #) or Field Service Technician-Network (requisition #) depending on qualifications. Please reference each posting for the minimum qualifications and submit applications for each level of interest and qualification.
- Assists with on-site installation, troubleshooting, testing, splicing, repairing, and maintaining telephone and general network equipment, customer premise equipment, Video/CATV/DBS, fiber optic/copper facilities, and other TDS products and services for new and existing customers. Identifies defective cable locations using test equipment and repairs buried, aerial, and underground facilities; locates cables and fiber per customer requests or construction needs. Pole climbing and operating construction equipment may be required.
Locates, identifies, and marks company underground facilities to prevent damage. Maintains logs of locate requests. Performs cable fault acceptance tests on newly constructed facilities. - Provides troubleshooting support techniques and corrections; responds to trouble dispatches.
- Supports maintenance and enhancements of record systems (cross connects, line groups, network elements, etc.).
- Delivers excellent customer service, proactively educates and sells TDS products and services to customers.
- Gains working knowledge of RUS standards and grounding practices associated with splicing and maintenance of outside plant facilities and equipment.
Required Qualifications
- Must have and maintain a valid driver's license.
- Must follow the TDS attendance guidelines to meet business needs and customer expectations.
Other Qualifications
- Upon hire, must successfully complete customer-specific requirements, which may include a background check administered by the customer.
- Must be available for on-call/standby responsibilities and may require occasional travel. Willing to work overtime as needed.
- Upon hire, must successfully pass all components of the Safety Course curriculum.
- Ability to maintain DOT requirements for operating vehicles with a Gross Vehicle Weight Rating > 10,000 lbs.
- A+ certification and computer networking experience.
