The Automotive Service Technician is responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and performing maintenance on customer vehicles in accordance with manufacturer and dealership standards. This role works within the main service shop to deliver high-quality repairs, maintain productivity goals, and ensure customer vehicles are repaired safely, accurately, and efficiently.
What You’ll DoVehicle Diagnosis & Repair- Perform diagnostic testing to identify mechanical, electrical, and drivability concerns
- Repair and replace vehicle components according to manufacturer and dealership standards
- Perform maintenance services including inspections, brakes, suspension, engine repairs, driveline work, and other automotive repair services
- Use diagnostic equipment, repair manuals, and technical resources to troubleshoot vehicle issues accurately
- Complete warranty and recall repairs as assigned
- Perform routine maintenance services such as oil changes, tire rotations, fluid checks, alignments, and manufacturer‑recommended services
- Conduct multi‑point inspections and identify repair or maintenance recommendations
- Communicate repair findings clearly to service advisors for customer review and approval
- Ensure repairs are completed within established time standards whenever possible
- Maintain a high standard of workmanship and repair quality
- Follow dealership, manufacturer, and safety procedures at all times
- Perform final quality checks on completed work
- Maintain clean, organized work areas and properly care for shop tools and equipment
- Work closely with service advisors, parts department staff, and other technicians to support efficient shop operations
- Document repair procedures, parts used, and labor operations accurately
- Participate in manufacturer training and ongoing technical development
- Support shop productivity and customer satisfaction goals
- Previous automotive technician experience required
- Strong diagnostic and mechanical repair skills
- Ability to read repair orders, technical manuals, and diagnostic information
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast‑paced service environment
- Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record required
- Ability to lift, bend, kneel, and perform physically demanding work
The Automotive Service Technician plays a critical role in delivering safe, reliable vehicle repairs and maintaining customer trust in the dealership’s service department. This position directly impacts customer satisfaction, shop productivity, and overall service department success.
Work Environment- Frequent standing, bending, kneeling, lifting, and physical repair work
- Exposure to noise, moving vehicles, tools, equipment, chemicals, and shop environments
- Use of computers, diagnostic equipment, and specialized repair tools
- Exposure to varying temperatures depending on shop and vehicle conditions
