Construction General Laborer
The Construction General Laborer supports a wide range of construction activities, ensuring job sites remain clean, safe, and efficient. This role assists with demolition, repairs, installations, and general carpentry tasks while operating hand and power tools and following detailed plans and instructions. The position requires physical stamina, attention to safety, and the ability to work independently in varying weather conditions and remote locations.
Responsibilities- Clean and prepare construction sites to eliminate hazards and keep work areas free of rubble and debris.
- Assist with construction demolition activities in a safe and controlled manner.
- Support repairs, restoration, and installation of structures such as floors, doors, walls, windows, stairways, decks, and roofs.
- Operate hand and power tools and perform basic preventative maintenance on this equipment.
- Assist carpenters by retrieving tools, equipment, and materials needed to perform tasks efficiently.
- Install hardware such as locks, hinges, knobs, and closures on doors and other fixtures.
- Read and interpret plans, instructions, and specifications to determine required work activities.
- Control traffic passing near, in, and around work zones as needed to maintain a safe environment.
- Signal equipment operators to facilitate alignment, movement, and adjustment of machinery, equipment, and materials.
- Dig ditches or trenches, and compact and level earth to grade specifications using picks, shovels, and rakes.
- Measure, mark, and record openings and distances to lay out areas where construction work will be performed.
- Load, unload, and identify building materials, machinery, tools, and temporary structures.
- Erect and disassemble scaffolding, shoring, braces, ramps, and other temporary structures.
- Assist other trades with labor duties as needed to support overall project progress.
- Follow all safety procedures and incident reporting requirements while maintaining a clean and organized job site.
- Meet project schedules by working dependably and consistently, including long days and extended assignments when required.
- Knowledge of and ability to use basic carpentry equipment, machines, tools, methods, and materials.
- Proficiency with construction hand tools and power tools.
- Ability to perform a variety of tasks involving strenuous manual labor.
- Ability to see, record, and maintain written information and required records accurately.
- Ability to effectively understand and communicate verbally with others on the job site.
- Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Ability to ensure proper safety and incident reporting procedures are followed at all times.
- Ability to meet project schedules with dependability and consistency.
- Ability to wear protective clothing and use personal protective equipment as required.
- Ability to work long days and hours, including in inclement weather conditions.
- Ability and willingness to travel extensively to remote areas, including extended and overnight travel at any time of year.
Skills & Qualifications
- Experience in construction, carpentry, concrete work, or general labor is beneficial.
- Familiarity with reading plans, instructions, and specifications.
- Comfort working around heavy machinery and traffic control in active work zones.
- Strong attention to detail when measuring, marking, and laying out work areas.
- Reliability and strong work ethic in physically demanding environments.
