Student Support Specialist
A part-time (0.50 FTE) position as a Student Support Specialist is available at Mankato West High School beginning August 24, 2026, for the 2026-27 school year. This is a half time position lasting for a span of one school year while our building is undergoing renovations. This position will work closely with the student support staff (assistant principals, counselors, social worker, and school psychologist).
Summary of Duties:
- Provide support to students involved in minor disruptions or repeated off-task behaviors.
- Build strong, respectful relationships with students to promote positive decision-making and school engagement.
- Partner with teachers to reinforce behavior expectations and provide coaching or re-teaching to students as needed.
- Monitor attendance and intervene early with students demonstrating patterns of chronic absenteeism or tardiness.
- Conduct student check-ins, family outreach, and coordinate support plans to improve attendance and engagement.
- Facilitate restorative conversations or mediations between students or between students and staff.
- Maintain a presence in hallways and common areas during unstructured times to proactively address behaviors and foster a positive school culture.
- Collaborate with counselors, social workers, and administrators to support student success and ensure follow-through on plans.
Qualifications:
- Valid MN Teaching license in counseling or secondary teaching.
- Experience working with high school student behaviors and attendance.
Salary Range: $25,514 - $46,640 (based on the MTA salary schedule).
