Design Engineer - Municipal

Job Overview

Bolton & Menk has an exciting opportunity for a Design Engineer, EIT, to join our Transportation team in the Mankato office. With over 75 years of experience, Bolton & Menk specializes in community infrastructure solutions across the Midwest, Southeast, and beyond. This entry‑level civil engineering role seeks an EIT who will assist project managers and project engineers with design and construction phase activities on municipal projects.

The position is open to December 2024 or May 2025 graduates, or an experienced EIT with 1–3 years of experience.

• Assist project engineers with design and construction phase activities on municipal projects.
• Perform basic design computations, preliminary layout and design, research, and prepare rough drafts of preliminary reports and feasibility studies.
• Assist with project plans and specifications, preparing cost and quantity take‑off estimates.
• Conduct construction observation activities such as staking, documenting, measuring, testing, and interacting with contractors, sub‑contractors, residents, and city staff.

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited college.
• Certified Engineer‑in‑Training or ability to obtain certification within 12 months of hire.
• Prior experience in infrastructure design and/or construction observation.
• Working knowledge of CAD and design software (e.g., AutoCAD Civil 3D, Micro Station).
• Frequent travel required during construction season.
• Valid driver’s license for travel to various facilities and job sites.

Salary Range: $58,000 – $90,000, depending on years of experience and credentials.
