The Controller is responsible for overseeing the financial operations of the dealership, ensuring accurate reporting, strong internal controls, and effective financial management across all departments. This role provides leadership for accounting and administrative functions while delivering financial insights that support operational performance and strategic decision‑making.
The Controller plays a key role in maintaining the financial health of the dealership through accurate reporting, compliance, budgeting, payroll oversight, and operational analysis.
What You’ll Do Financial Reporting & Analysis- Prepare and review monthly financial statements and operational reports
- Monitor dealership financial performance, expenses, and profitability trends
- Assist ownership with budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning activities
- Analyze departmental financial results and identify opportunities for improvement
- Support month‑end and year‑end closing processes
- Oversee daily accounting functions including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll support, reconciliations, and general ledger activity
- Ensure accurate processing of dealership transactions and financial records
- Monitor inventory schedules, contracts, and dealership accounting controls
- Assist with audits, financial reviews, and compliance‑related reporting
- Maintain strong internal controls and accounting procedures
- Supervise and support office and accounting staff as needed
- Promote accountability, organization, and process improvement within the accounting office
- Collaborate with department managers and dealership owners to support operational goals
- Assist with training and development of accounting and administrative personnel
- Ensure compliance with dealership policies, manufacturer requirements, and financial regulations
- Support payroll administration and employee benefit processes
- Maintain dealership reporting systems and assist with process improvements
- Provide financial insight and recommendations to dealership ownership
- Associate degree or higher in Accounting, Finance, or related field required
- Previous accounting or financial management experience required
- Automotive dealership accounting experience preferred, but not required
- Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem‑solving skills
- Strong communication and leadership abilities
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and accounting software systems
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive financial information
- Extended periods of driving and time on the road
- Frequent entry and exit from vehicles
- Exposure to outdoor weather conditions
- Occasional walking and light physical activity
The Controller plays a critical role in supporting the financial health and operational success of the dealership. Through accurate reporting, process oversight, and financial leadership, the Controller helps drive informed decision‑making and long‑term dealership performance.
