JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Graduate Assistant Simulation Technologist provides technical and mechanical support for the Maverick Family Nursing Simulation Center. Becoming trained in industry standards and established best practices as a part of the position, this individual is responsible for helping to maintain and sustain the audiovisual equipment, inventory, support, maintenance and setup, computer software support, as well as the care of the mannequins and other equipment used in the simulation program.
Reports to the Simulation Operations Coordinator. Works in collaboration with the Academic and Workforce Simulation Directors, Technology Director for the College of Allied Health & Nursing, and other Simulation Center technical staff as well as faculty who teach using simulation.
- Maintain current knowledge of simulation/lab equipment catalogs and operation manuals.
- Program simulator software to model simulator’s physiological response to instructor specifications.
- Operate patient simulators and cameras for the duration of simulations.
- Operate and maintain audio-visual and debriefing systems.
- Set up and take down simulation laboratory equipment; may involve rapid turnover of simulation lab set up.
- Maintain and repair (with vendor support) all simulation equipment, including patient simulators, computers, monitors and a variety of medical equipment.
- Troubleshoot equipment malfunctions and contacts vendors.
- Communicate effectively with faculty, administrative staff and other simulation center staff.
- Communicate effectively with manufacturers regarding maintenance, repairs, updates and technology changes.
- Collaborate with supervisor to organize, maintain, and restock simulation supplies.
- Provide technical support for task trainers and multimedia peripherals including beds/examination tables, headwalls, patient monitors, and other health care equipment, medication dispensing systems and vital sign monitors.
- Provide theatrical production (costuming and moulage) for simulation scenarios as requested.
- Provide technical assistance, support and training to faculty, instructors, and staff in use of simulation equipment.
- Coordinate simulation center schedule (including OSCE, sim and classroom) in compliance with simulation center policies working to prevent scheduling conflicts.
- Provide recommendations on equipment, supplies and materials.
- Collect data for ongoing research or grant requirements.
- Set up and maintain computer-based training programs.
- Maintain simulation activities and learner confidentiality.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Knowledge of and commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
- Willingness to learn and or knowledge of medical terminology and human anatomy/physiology.
- Willingness to learn and or knowledge of mechanical skills to competently maintain and use equipment in the simulation center.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills (written and oral) to interact with and work effectively with other faculty, staff, students, and vendors in a positive, helpful and cooperative working relationship.
- Ability to provide technical support in networking, computer hardware or software.
- Familiarity with PC and Mac platforms with skill in MS Office and the ability to learn additional software programs, including audiovisual and computerized simulation equipment.
- Willingness to learn and or knowledge operation of standard audio-visual equipment: projectors, microphones, portable screens, media players, etc.
- Organizational and time management skills to keep materials in order, track various projects, maintain files, and follow through assignments to completion.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of information.
- Ability to learn new technology quickly.
- Ability to express technical information clearly and simply to non-technical persons.
- In good academic standing, 3.0 or above
- Demonstrated commitment to student development and antiracism.
- Must be willing to work evening and weekend hours within a 20-hour per week schedule (non-remote)
- Background in or comfort with technology and technology support
- Admitted to a Minnesota State University, Mankato graduate program by start date.
- Enrolled in a minimum of six (6) graduate credits per semester during assistantship, and in good academic standing.
- Background in Computer Science, Computer Information Science, Health Informatics, Health Science, Management Information Systems, Technical Communication, or related discipline.
