JOB DESCRIPTION
Job Title: Executive Director
Reports To: The Board of Directors
Overview: The Executive Director is responsible for providing leadership and strategic direction for all programs and initiatives that support the vision and mission of the Greater Mankato Diversity Council. The Director builds collaborative relationships with partners, stakeholders, and other appropriate community groups, in efforts to enhance the greater Mankato area’s commitment to create welcoming, inclusive communities. Additionally, the Director serves as an advocate for diversity, equity, and inclusion issues while serving as a resource within the surrounding community and beyond.
Organizational& Community Outreach
- Facilitate and lead the development and implementation of a strategic plan that advances the organization’s vision, mission and goals.
- Build and maintain relationships with businesses, educational systems, and city, county and community agencies to advance the greater Mankato area’s efforts to create welcoming, inclusive communities.
- Establish, maintain, and assess programs and initiatives that advance diversity, equity and inclusion.
- Develop and implement effective internal and external communications.
- Develop and maintain filing systems, office policies, and administrative procedures.
- Actively engage and energize volunteers, board members, committees, partnering organizations, donors, and funders
- Implement and administer policies approved by the Board of Directors. Recommend additions and revisions for by-laws and policies to the Board of Directors, as appropriate.
- Supervise and direct strategic and long-term planning efforts. Provide leadership to ensure implementation of planning efforts.
- Recommend program development initiatives to the Board of Directors. Oversee the implementation of program development initiatives.
- Ensure the implementation of evaluative procedures for the assessment of program effectiveness and report to the Board of Directors
- Oversee and monitor the fiscal integrity and management of Diversity Council’s operating budget, as well as ensure that programs are adequately funded.
- Supervise and support all fundraising/creative financing plans and strategies. Maintain strong relationships with donors. Oversee financial tracking related to fundraising efforts. Ensure good record keeping and timely submission of proposals and reports.
- Lead the annual budget development process, submit budgets and monthly financial statements to the Board of Directors. Ensure that audits are conducted annually.
- Recruit, supervise and evaluate Diversity Council staff in accordance with policies established by the Board of Directors. Recommend appropriate staffing additions and/or changes to the Board of Directors.
- In conjunction with the Executive Committee, establish the agenda for Board of Directors meetings to ensure that the Board stays abreast of current activities and initiatives of the Diversity Council, as well as the emerging needs of the community.
- Provide support to the Board of Directors, including orientation of new members of the Board. Provide a monthly report of Diversity Council activities to the Board of Directors. Provide administrative and clerical support for the Board of Directors and/or supervise other employees or volunteers who provide such support.
- Recruit and involve volunteers in the activities of the Diversity Council.
- Recommend and use appropriate technology and equipment to support and promote the Diversity Council’s vision and mission.
Qualifications:
Education and/or experience, including lived experience, that demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to meet the principal responsibilities of the position, i.e., graduation from an accredited four-year college or university in a related field or experience which has included extensive public engagement and process management across various demographics.
