Mayo Clinic Global Security Officers provide a professional level of customer service and security presence. A Security officer will proactively patrol Mayo Clinic property and security sensitive areas, assist visitors, patients and staff as needed, and help prevent and deter fire, theft, vandalism, illegal entry, etc. Security vehicles may be utilized on a regular or occasional basis. Officers enforce Mayo policies, respond to complaints and service calls for wrongdoing, prepare incident reports and activity logs, and may work in Security control centers.
An officer must adapt to unpredictable and stressful situations, manage altercations and emergency crises in an effective and professional manner, operate and communicate on a two-way radio, and exhibit good judgment, maturity, initiative, and diplomacy when dealing with people in stressful situations. The role frequently involves walking, standing, stooping, bending, lifting, pulling, climbing, reaching, pushing, and occasionally running. Officers assist patients, volunteers, visitors, and staff with emergency evacuations, including handling evacuation devices used to transport patients and others to safety.
Officers make effective decisions as emergency first responders, remain confident in stressful situations, and work as a team member with other emergency responders, including law enforcement and fire/rescue personnel.
They are able to work nights and weekends for security and protection assignments and when required by emergency or special situations. This position may be required to carry and deploy a taser.

QualificationsHigh school degree or GED equivalent is required.
Associate's degree in law enforcement, criminal justice, security, or a related field is preferred. Minimum two years of experience in customer service, military, security or a similar role is required. Experience in a healthcare setting is preferred. Candidates must have experience in patrolling, incident report writing, defensive tactics, emergency response, lock/unlock procedures, door access, and CCTV camera operation. They should have experience with Windows XP or newer and intermediate skills in Microsoft Office applications.
Technical aptitude to work with Security Technology is preferred.
Previous security experience; ability to work independently and in a team environment; strong sense of customer service and interpersonal skills to interact with patients, visitors, and employees; strong written and verbal skills; and strong problem‑solving skills.
Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record in accordance with Mayo Clinic policy. Must obtain certification from the International Association for Healthcare Security and Safety (IAHSS) as a Healthcare Security Officer within six months. Training certifications in AVADE Workplace Violence Training, basic CPR and AED are required within one year.
